Well, if you're tired or just need air, then you can't help but yawn. If someone is telling you something very important, and it is obvious they are looking at you and expecting you to pay close attention, then if you must yawn, do it as discreetly as possible.
Yawning during sex, while someone is telling you something tragic or very sad, or while someone is sharing something very important -- these are all times when it can be considered rude to yawn. It says you are bored, tired of listening, or not having a good time. Yawning at a child's school performance should be avoided if the child will see you. Muffle it, stifle it if you can. Now if you are listening to a long-winded speaker, and the situations above do not apply, then yawning can be a polite way to tell them that they are "losing their audience" and they might want to speed things up a bit. In fact, maybe you could do a "wave yawn" and get those around you to yawn in unison, down the rows until the speaker gets the message!

No, even while human beings yawn i don't. i like to play a game with my acquaintances the place somebody will yawn and we observed who yawns first. I never generally win except i'm ill with a chilly through fact i'm getting so drained it incredibly is as though I stayed up an entire week with a wink of sleep.

The only time it is rude to yawn is when someone is talking about something heartfelt or important. It is best to muffle the yawn as much as possible like a silent burp is acceptable.

yawning is natural and therefore happens - when you feel that you are going to yawn put your hand over your mouth - this is polite. Open a window if inside as you may need fresher air!

I think as long as you cover your mouth, it's never rude. People might think they are boring you, but maybe you are just tired. I yawn alot in Math class!

When you're sitting at a table next to the stage in a bar and a local rock band is playing. OUCH!
Now THAT would be the ultimate insult to the band.
You could cover your mouth to be polite but you wouldn't be fooling anybody up there on stage. They can see you.
The only thing worse would be to throw stuff at them and boo.

It is rude to hold you mouth open if you don't cover it and if it is during an event you may be telling everyone that you are board.
