My female cat is not fixed but my males are so I don't have to worry about kittens either. Once every couple of months my cat bellows loudly for about 3 or 4 days, she walks around the house and puts her bottom in the air. And if anyone opens the door she tries to run outside. That's about it, if you can take the howling meows then you can not get her fixed. Some people say cats can get cancer of there ovaries or uterus if you don't remove them, but I don't believe in removing organs just so they won't get diseased.

She cats don't spray, but they do come into season regularly, which means lots of crying, craving attention and rubbing up against everything/one.

It is important to get female cats spayed as repeated seasons will take their toll. Your cat will become physically tired and will possibly develop an infection of the womb. When a female is in season, she is constantly alert and this can result in nervous conditions such as bald patches and skin infections through overgrooming or soiling in inappropriate areas.

I can understand if you want to breed from your cat, but repeated litters will also cause her quite a lot of harm. If she has a pedigree, you should take contraceptive advice from your vet.

All the best.x

The noise that they make is very irritating at times, and sometimes comical. One of my gals sounds like she is saying "uh-oh". I have 2 females that are un-altered in a house with 3 altered cats. They do spray and can cause the other cats to spray too. they also become very lovable while in heat - rub my head, rub my head!
i have not had a problem with them trying to get out of the house and they do not bleed like dogs or humans!! They can go in and out of heat every 2 weeks though. i have found Feb - Aug the most active times, but only in Feb and Aug do they go in and out of heat that often. Other times, just about once every 2 months or so.
The boy cats in the neighborhood do spray the house in the summer months.

You will have a VERY annoying cat that is prone to being smelly and smelling up your house. Unless you plan to take on the job of Cat Breeder (which is definitely not for everyone) leaving your female cat intact is NOT an option. You'll want to strangle the annoying thing and one mistake and you have kittens.

An unaltered female cat is more likely to urinate outside of her cat box. Unfortunately, it's not just males who will do that. She's also likely to become agitated when in heat and go through the house meowing (or yowling) frantically at all hours of the day and night. She is more likely to run away---increasing her chances of being hit by a car or attacked by another animal. She is also more likely to get certain cancers, such as cancer of the mammary glands. ---Not to mention, that she is likely to attract male cats in the neighborhood (even if she is kept indoors), and the males will spray all over the outside of your house.

Um, hello, you are not concerned about kittens? do you plan to keep them all and provide vet care for all of them?
I work at the pound where unwanted kittens are euthanized for the mere crime of not having a home. So please..... if you care at all for cats, please do be concerned for the kittens.

Nextly, the female will go into heat and howl and be annoying, try to get out to find a tom. She will bleed a little and exude a clear gel like substance, a mucous plug. ( Like humans!)
It is a much safer way to go to have her spayed, you can contact friendsofanimals.org for a low cost spay certificate.
Good luck to you kitty.... whatever route you choose.

From personal experience, the annoying behavior is the worst of it. I didn't experience her bleeding or anything just yowling and making a horrible ruckus. At one point, I guess she was excited because she 'oozed' some sort of substance from her nether regions that dripped on my computer monitor (where she was at the time). I PROMISE after the first time you deal with a cat in heat, you WILL get her fixed. With mine it was either get her fixed or choke her to death because the behavior really is terrible.

Well they do make a lot of noise when they are in heat. It is also better to have them spayed, so as not to develop certain tumors etc. It is much better for them to be spayed as they just make a better pet. Also, you should be concerned about kittens,as there are too many that have to be euthanized because there are just too many unwanted kitties (TOO bad)

Blood stains. Cats do have a similar period to women. And spraying. Can't get that stink out!
