I simply wish to have the C: drive open; instead I get the Windows Search page opening. It's annoying! So, I right-click the icon and select Open. Is there a registry setting I can change to make Open the default response when I double-click the C: drive?

As long as your not using too many new programs, nothing you are using on your PC should give you a real problem. If your using a lot of newer programs you should get a better CPU and RAM, but because your PC is so old, you will have huge ribbon cables connecting everything, and the new stuff uses SATA cables. No matter what, your HDD is way too old. The only parts of your computer that move are the fans and the HDD, and they are the ones that break and slow down. Get a newer one, and don't buy it second hand. If you cant install it, someone in your local IT store could do it for a small fee.
