My 17 year old daughter takes darvocet on a regular basis for lupis. Is it safe to cut these in half and give her half the dosage. When she takes the full dose she cannot function at school so half of a tablet seems to help her not be so drowsy. She takes 650 mg twice a day.

yes it is safe. elderly people often times cannot always swallow meds, so they either split them in two, or crush them so they can swallow them. it is perfectly safe. if u have any questions about medicine, call your pharmacy and ask them though if you are feeling concerned or worried about things like that.

Ask the phamarcist. about the safety of cutting the pill. That's what he/she is there for. Some pills are not designed to be cut in half. (If it's a capsule, you can't do it.)

Ask her doctor if it's OK to decrease the dosage. That's a different question entirely. You should never alter the dosage you've been prescribed without discussing it with the doctor.

It is safe and there is no harm (unless you cut your fingers trying to cut the tablets).
The only tablets that should not be cut are sustained-release formulations as with the cutting you are turning them into immediate -release formulations which could lead to acute overdose. As Darvocet (proxyphene and tylenol) is not a sustained-release formulation, you have nothing to worry about. In principle the lowest amount of drug that achieves its goal should be taken.

Generally it is safe to cut most pills in half. Obviously you cannot you capsules in half, and you should never cut a time release pill in half. It usually has some instructions on the bottle if you are not supposed to cut the pills in half. To be safe give her doctor a call and ask.

only if the dr says it ok or if the pain is being held back by half dosage. ask her if she is sleepy at school id ask the school to give you the work to give to her until she feels better. my mom has lupis she has spells in and out of pain. ttry to work with the school let her do the full meds like she should. or simply ask her does half do it as far as killing pain or are ya doing it just to stay awake

Your doctor would be the best person to ask, but logically if she can function on 325 mg and still relieve pain then I'd do it if she was my daughter. All that an adjustment in pill size will do is increase costs.

Republicans blocking tons of spending legislation Obama wanted is why deficit may be reduced. Don't forget, Obama wanted no caps on his continuous spending programs, but Republicans had to fight that also to keep his spending from raising to the sunshine. You have to know the reasons to understand this all, and the Tea Party knows how it's happening and, for the country, they're glad of it.

It will not hurt. I have to take it also for arthritis. I am like her, I cannot take a whole one and work, so I cut mine in half.

If you called your regular pharmacist I am sure they could tell you for sure but I think it's o.k. Good luck
