If you are tyring to format the main partition on which Windows is located, you have to do that using the Windows install CD. Boot from the CD and it will begin the Windows install. Right after you do the F8 to agree, it will allow you to partition, and format (FAT32 or NTFS) the drive.

If you are trying to do a second partition ot hard drive, you can no that from within Windows. Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Go to the Disc management section. You will be able to see all the drives and partitions on your computer. You can partition, format, etc. from there.

It is possible to convert an existing FAT32 partition to NTFS without loosing data. But there is not method (in Windows) to go from NTFS back to FAT32 without formatting the drive.

go to my computer. rioght click on the volume you want ot format. clikck format. it comes up with a dialog box where you can choose what format (fat32 or NTFS) and quick or full format. change them as you see fit and click ok. quick formats don;t take long, but full ones do take a while, and it depends on the size of the volume

if on a ms-dos mode.. u can use fdisk.. comand..
which will give u options to format ur partition and into wat format u want to format them to..

incase of normal partition inn windows u can jus right click format that... and select the type u want..

1 more way is to us e software called partition magic which is raelly efficient and a great time saver...
