Women took over all the manufacturing and construction jobs that were left behind when the men left to go and fight the war. Rosie the Riveter was actually a welder named Margaret from the Willow Run Airport where planes and tanks were both assembled.

If women had not worked in factories and worked on the farms AND brought up the next generation the Germans would have won the war, they where the unsung heroes. If you meet one of them have respect.

Many of them were nurses in the war. My grandmother was when she joined the army to help our country in WWII. That's where she met my grandfather. Funny thing is, she out ranked him when they first met so he had to salute her while they were becoming close. She used to have a bumper sticker on her car that said "Women are veterans too."

A neighbor I used to have was one of the very first Navy nurses in WWII. There used to be a lot of Army nurses, but not so many Navy nurses yet.
9/11 brought a lot of painful flashbacks to her on that day!

They worked in factories making bombs, guns, planes, tanks, ships, anything to fight the war. They were USAF pilots used to ferry planes to Britain. They were a great bunch of people, and they almost ran the country.(plus, they raised their kids without a man in the house)
