You need to feed him on a schedule Put the food down for 10-15 minutes. Pick it up if he hasn't eating till the next feeding. Do not free feed. They know the food is there, and sometimes won't eat. If you're feeding the dog a lot of treats or table scraps he may be holding out for those instead of eating his own food. Also - no more hand feeding. If you have a healthy dog there is no reason you should be hand feeding. He's going to learn to expect it and wait till you do it. Put some water on the food and put it in the micorwave. it will bring out the aroma making it more alluring. Also it could be that he just doesn't like his food. Make sure you're feeding him a Premium food - no by products, no corn. It's very hard for the dog to digest and has no nutritional value. Look into foods that are higher in protein and fat (for example Nutro Max). It will taste better to the dog. You can also put some chicken or beef broth in the food. It's all natural. No canned because it get stuck in the teeth and causes tooth decay and rot. Don't worry - dogs are natural survivors. He'll eat. Oh... has anything tramatic happened lately? He could just be depressed. Dogs will stop eating, and seem to mope when they are "sad". Just show him some extra love, keep up with the training and exercise (30 min - 1 hour a day every day) and he'll be okay! Good Luck

Hey our puppy does this too. She only eats her whole dinner if we hand feed her or if she's starving... which is good for reinforcing that we're alphas, but kind of annoying. Our puppy is young so we won't try this yet, but you should just stop feeding your dog by hand. Just put food in his bowl and leave it. Eventually, he will get hungry enough that he will eat it. A normal dog can go without food for four days. If he doesn't eat after that long and seems unhealthy, take him to a vet for more serious action. You can also try putting something really good in his bowl- such as a bit of yoghurt, bacon, or tuna fish oil from the can. He should gobble it up. Good luck!!!!

Seriously, take him to a new vet. Labradors don't "sometimes do that." No healthy dog stops eating for no reason. Get a second opinion as soon as possible!

Go to a different doctor! this guy obviously doesn't know what he is talking about. it is, quite possibly, a serious medical condition which might require medical intervention. i have a black lab/shepherd mix who is 2 and 1/2, i've never heard of anything like this.

This is not normal behavior for a lab. Either you're full of crap, or your vet is a moron.
