I was going to say go to a Caribbean restaurant, hang out with friends from back home, etc., but sometimes that just makes you more homesick! Try the reverse - try to find things to do in your new hometown to get you excited about being where you are, not where you want to be!

there are many things you can do to make the transition easier.

if you miss your friends and family back home, you can call them, email, video conference. the world has become much smaller with internet. home is far, but it is not really that far away. they are just 1 phone call away.

home sick happens when you are lonely. so, go out and see your new world. make some new friends. there must be some other people from Caribean that's homesick out there too. try new food, experience the new culture. there are so many new things to try and to see. it is exciting!

it is ok to be homesick. you have to give yourself some time to make the transition. there is nothing wrong to be home sick. take it as a challenge. nobody dies from homesick. you will be fine.
