As long as the dog isn't refusing water, and isnt vomitting things should be ok. Just get him on a regular eating schedual (we always have fed our dogs while we eat breakfast and dinner--gives them a clear schedual and keeps them away from our food if they know thats their only chance to eat). However, if he is sluggish or doing anything mentioned above, you may want to take him to another vet. Loss of appetite can be a sign something is in his tummy that shouldnt be and that he isnt 'passing' on his own, or that something else is up. Our shepherd stopped eating for quite a while before we discovered he had gastric cancer.
Most likely, you furry friend is just enjoying the attention. He could be a littly anxiety-prone. Are you gone most the day? Try taking him for a walk in the mornings and then feeding him when you two get back. He'll enjoy the attention, exercuse and the pattern this will set for the day.
Good luck!

You need to feed him on a schedule Put the food down for 10-15 minutes. Pick it up if he hasn't eating till the next feeding. Do not free feed. They know the food is there, and sometimes won't eat.

If you're feeding the dog a lot of treats or table scraps he may be holding out for those instead of eating his own food. Also - no more hand feeding. If you have a healthy dog there is no reason you should be hand feeding. He's going to learn to expect it and wait till you do it.

Put some water on the food and put it in the micorwave. it will bring out the aroma making it more alluring. Also it could be that he just doesn't like his food. Make sure you're feeding him a Premium food - no by products, no corn. It's very hard for the dog to digest and has no nutritional value. Look into foods that are higher in protein and fat (for example Nutro Max). It will taste better to the dog.

You can also put some chicken or beef broth in the food. It's all natural. No canned because it get stuck in the teeth and causes tooth decay and rot.

Don't worry - dogs are natural survivors. He'll eat.

Oh... has anything tramatic happened lately? He could just be depressed. Dogs will stop eating, and seem to mope when they are "sad". Just show him some extra love, keep up with the training and exercise (30 min - 1 hour a day every day) and he'll be okay!

Good Luck

Dont feed him by hand. he wont eat any other way then. Leave his food in his dish, when he gets hungry enough he will eat on his own. Our family has had 5 black labs and they all have their own little quirks. One of them didnt eat for a week only drank water and he is fine and 5 years old now. So dont worry unless this continues. he may have some sort of throat problem. So if you are that worried bring him to a different vet and tell him your concerns.

Take him back to the vet- this is not normal behavior at all. Labs love to eat- he could have an intestinal blockage or something else very serious. He needs medical care right away!!! Please dont wait anymore, he is probably in a lot of discomfort, I would take him today as soon as you can. Good luck, I hope is better soon.

If this has been going on for a month, you should find a different vet.
