I too was quite scared of needles; infact everytime I went for sugar test when I had my gestational diabetes, I use to cry and weep out. My husband gave me this idea to keep talking to the nurse and keep distracting myself. It helped!

I am the same way. I hate needles but i find that it helps if you dont watch them stick you. Also i hate when they prick your finger to check your iron level before you give blood. I tend to get a little lightheaded when i give blood so make sure you drink some juice afterwards and eat something. I cant say that it doesnt hurt a little when they stick the needle in and also its a little uncomfortable the whole time but it only takes a few minutes and then its over. Just remember its for a good cause and will save someones life.

I too am terrifed of needles. It will hurt to begin with but after it just feels some uncomfort. Dont make a big deal out of it. Alot of ppl these days do it. After they give you orange juice to help your blood pressure restabelize and a cookie for sugar. It is a bigger needle than what your used to but the nurses doing it know what they are doing. Breathe in and out, in and out and try not to worry. You are saving someones life.

its a big needle... 16 gage! but its worth it... think of those that are needing blood, bleeding from internal organs or things like that, a child with a laceration. think of the positive things whenever the needle is going in. i am getting ready to donate blood today... the only part that even hurts is the needle going in after that its a walk in the park...

Are you giving blood or do you have to have a blood test?
If you are just giving it, don't. If you have to have a blood test it wont hurt. The needle is not big. It is like a little pinch but it really does not hurt.

no it's not a big needle....it's not so bad....it depends on who you have. The worst part is if they can't get the vein the first time around and they keep sticking you with it. But honestly the blood bank people have plenty of experience so it shouldn't hurt.

You will be fine, it does not hurt as much as you think it does. Don't look at the person placing the needle in just look away or close your eyes and think about how many people you are fortunate to help.

define "hurt." Stings a bit, then settles down. of course its a big needle as needles go, have to put thick blood thru it.

It is a regular sized needle that pricks a little when it's inserted. It's great that you are giving blood. It won't hurt

Scared of what? Will it kill you? Disfigure you? Cause a disease? What is it about needles which makes people afraid? They do not harm you. It will cause a quick and mild burn once inserted and that's it. Stop being afraid of things that will not harm you. A little pain isn't going to kill either.
