I'm traveling to Japan next year, and intend on taking many photos while I'm there. I'm not skilled enough yet to write my own form or translate one into Japanese.

well you may want to try http://photojpn.org/ and join one of their blogs or groups. You could perhaps also try contacting the webmaster Philbert Ono, he could find one for you.

If you are taking photographs for yourself, that is not to sell there is no problem. If you want to use these images in stock libraries, the stock library will require a model release form if the person can be recognised. You can take photographs in public but if the person sees his image bandied about in adverts he/she could sue you for damages and demand you withdraw their image. This is why a model release form is necessary. One also needs a release form for property these days. One cannot just publish photographs of peoples homes and properties either. Stock libraries ask for this type of release form as well.

1) Get a good english version of the photo release and if this is used overseas(not in america) make sure all the legaities are covered for that country.

2) Go to a local college and see the language professors there and see if one of the students there might want to help. There are probably Japanese nationals there as well, so they may be willing to help.

Here is a really good one in english. English is used any many places probably even Japan.

If not, perhaps you could have this one translated for you.
