Hi! I plan to go to NYC soon for my internship in Manhattan...Would you know of any room for rent or maybe a hostel or dorm or any accomodation that is just reasonable in price? How much? My internship is near the Union Square. What's the safe place in NY? Where are the areas that I have to avoid?

There is no such thing as affordable living near Manhattan. There was just an article on Yahoo about the most expensive places to rent in the United States and New York City was #1.

the best Free site to search for apartments without paying fees, is on http://newyork.craigslist.org/
Make sure it is an individual that is posting the ad and not an agency.

In Manhattan, the most expensive city, rent starts at $900-1200 for a studio apt. Other boroughs like Queens, Bronx & Brooklyn, are cheaper with studios starting at $700, 1 Bed for $900+.

You will be fine. Go on line and look at the rental site. There will be millions of rooms go in your price range. You Will be fine. The most expensive places will be in The Village. Also Tribecca. Try to stay in the Upper Manhattan Parts. Not so expensive. You might move her permanent. I am a New Yorker and love it. The commute is wonderful anywhere you go. Lots of transportation.
