What did you used to do before you became a stepmother to three? I'm a stepmother too, and I've found that in my attempt to be the perfect mother and to win over my step children I allowed my live to revolve around them - to the exclusion of me time. Don't feel guilty hiring a sitter or asking their Dad to stay home while you go do something for yourself. Do you like to read? Join a book club. Like to knit or crochet? Start a new project. Paint? draw? sign up for an art class. Trust me - you will be happier if you do something for yourself, and if Mama's happy, everybody's happy.

There are probably two things you need to do. One is to be more active. Exercise will help lift depression. The other thing is to be around people more. If you are home with the 4 yo, then take the kid to the park, a play place, the library story time. You'll meet other mothers with kids the same ages. You could volunteer at the school of the other two kids. Invite one of your friends' kids over with the mother for an 'afternoon tea.' Join a gym and go to the aerobics classes - you'll meet people plus get moving. Join a book club at the library. Take a cake-decorating course at Hobby Lobby/Michael's. Take a class at the local college. Sometimes they even offer aerobics or swimming. Get a job.

Well, I've always loved arts and crafts. You should take up a new craft, learn how to do beading and make jewelry. If you are good enough you could even sell some and make a few extra bucks. OR take online courses and further your education. Perhaps you need to get out of the house more....learn a sport like golf or tennis, so you can meet and talk to people your own age. Good Luck

I know exactly how you feel. You need to figure out what the kids all like. Maybe skating, art (a lot of things to make together in that area), playing board games, have a movie night, etc... I know it will be hard but as a stepmother you have to prove how much you love them. It sucks but later on in life they'll know how much you tried to have a relationship with them.

Spend some time with the kids...people don't know this, but kids really do make your day feel better. make crafts and bake cookies. it helps them get closer to you and for you to get closer to them.
