Everyone has to pay for the tools they use. They are not disgarded after each use, just sterilized. It is their decision and choice go into debt. If you dont want debt and schools loans (some get scholarships and go in military to learn and get low interest rates) then pick a different profession. They work less hours than doctors, do not have to make hospital viists, be on call and usually work 40hr or less per week.
Yes everything is expensive. Our living expenses are high also.
Plus how many here are paying off their own loans.? Their expenses get passed onto you.
And they have the biggest smile when they hand you the bill.
oh well if they want to smell stinky mouths, they asked for it.
They took the place of tooth fairies and have to pay them to take them. Some bad dentists can make a lot of destruction instead of construction.

Because they are short in supply.
There are many professions who train for years and are highly specialised in skills and don't charge as much, because they are greater in number.
The UK has people queueing around the block for an affordable dentist. The market is centrally planned through the limited number of funded university places. There are only 21,000 dentists in the UK for a population of 60 million!
Even Russia has more dentists per head.

Dentists are defintely expensive but not all over the world. Right now dentists are the highest grossers in USof A, UK and Australia. It's because of the amount of money they spend on their education and the time spent on it......although they may or may not be that skilled. The one most imp. problem dentists face is constant backaches due to their posture while treating patients...well i guess they need to earn as well as pay their orthopaedicians so they charge in excess.....

all above plus the cost of materials
Another aspect is: the dental insurance have not been changed since 70s. but with inflation rising, the cost changed dramatically since 70s. You could have 5 crowns done in 70s, now barely 2 a year. Hence you have to pay more out of the pocket and you run out of insurance faster.

Gotta pay for dental school somehow. Also, not too many people off the street want to smell hot breath for a living.
