To straight up answer your first question: the chemicals responsible for muscle (and bone) growth (or anabolism) are referred to as Anabolic Steroids. They come in many different types, with just as many different effects (and side effects).

The body's endocrine system is what's in charge of hormone production and its capacity for recovery and balance, while impressive, is limited. It will respond to the increased intake of hormones by lowering its own production in a (futile) effort to keep hormone levels what they should be. Upon cessation of steroid ingestion, it may -- or may not -- completely recover (and it takes some time in either case).

This is in addition to the effects that your body will experience as a result of the abnormally high hormone levels.

One result, however, will be that you will usually see a tremendous growth of muscle tissue. This tissue is real, in the sense that you won't lose it after you stop taking supplements, though it may need a high volume of exercise to maintain its tone and shape. You will be stronger as well, and it will all happen much faster than if you didn't take hormones.

But since side effects (some permanent) have a negative impact on your most precious possession - your health - you should carefully research this topic and speak with a professional if possible. Anabolic Steroids are a Schedule III Controlled Substance in the US, but talking about them and getting medical advise is perfectly fine.

There are too many different hormones you can take, way too many to list here, and there are ways to minimize side effects (for example, by taking hormone "cocktails" or going through periods of not taking them), but information on this topic is widely available. A good place to start would be Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org) or any medical textbook (just as an example, "Principles of Anatomy and Physiology" from Wiley Publishing).

Since there is a significant commercial interest in selling various substances to consumers, be mindful of sources which might have a strong bias and an interest in promoting a certain product or omitting important information about the safety of a substance. This is why a medical book or a doctor's opinion are important.

And yes, some hormones will cause a disruption in spermatogenesis and might impact your reproductive health.

Whether you want to take anabolic steroids or not is a choice only you can make, so try to make it an informed one, and most importantly, be safe!

Before taking any supplements, please do research. Visit www.bodybuilding.com they have many good articles on this, and most members are more than happy to help.

I don't know what sort of supplements you are taking now, but you probably already know that you can take as many pills as you want, but without proper muscle stimulation, you won't grow.

Here are a list of safe supplements that you can take. They won't make your privates shrink....what you're thinking of are Andro and steroids, which is illegal, but that doesn't mean ppl can't get it, but I highly recommend that you don't take it. Start natural.

CLA - Prevents muscle loss when cutting
Glutamine - Increases recovery
Creatine - Bigger pump, allows you to lift more
Multivitamin - A must have, this is the one that you NEED to get
ZMA - Increases hormones safely by about 10%

There are all safe, but again, do research don't take my word for it.

Good luck and train hard!

Anything with hormones (such as steroids) will have adverse effects like the one you mention. However, protein supplements will not have such physical effects, although they may make you ill if you take too much. Remember, rapid anything (whether it be weight loss/gain or muscle loss/gain) will put an enormous strain on your system, leaving you in much worse shape for the long run.

protein is good for rebuilding muscle when working out. It is also a good component in building muscle. Creatine is one of the fastest component in creating muscle, but the side effect is that if you stop working out. The muscle will turn to water weight. Try protein and work out a lot.
