i am looking to buy a used car and i wanted to know which one is better between a 2004 acura tsx or a 2004 nissan maxima. I like both of the cars but as far as reliability, performance, style, last longing, and company, i am not so sure which car is the better buy? any comments/ suggestions. thanks

The question is to vague for an accurate answer. Since I don't know you or how you drive and some of what you ask is very dependent you and on your driving methods I can't answer most of your question.
www.edmunds.com and consumers reports have very good reviews and should be able to help you determine which automobile will work out best for you. Edmonds has a good forum section where you can learn a lot.
For me, having been a certified mechanic and having worked in the automotive industry most of my life and knowing in general what the specs are on different automotive companies parts manufacture I like the newer Ford cars and trucks. (1990+)
I have owned several imports (10+) and out of those I like Honda the best. Acura is a Honda brand so between your choices I would choose the Acura.
In my opinion both Honda and Ford hold tighter than average tolerances and better parts always result in a better car. Both of these companies have good assembly practices.
Older cars, earlier than 1975, I like both GM and Chrysler equally with a little bias towards Chrysler for styling and big block engineering. In small blocks I like the Chevy more.
More than you asked for, but, the information may help other people with used car choices.

well the general answer is that you have picked two great cars but lets do some analysis. first the tsx: 4 doors, smaller than the full sized maxima, 4 cyl engine - which is one of the best in its class as far as performance, and acura is owned by honda - one of the best if not the best for resale value, owner loyality and reliablity. next the maxima: 4 doors, larger than the tsx, 6 cyl engine - which has been named by ward's as one its top ten engines for the past 10 or 12 years and nissan is a great company especially of late - not too sure on resale value but probably close to any of the japanese car companies. the turning factor it seems is how big a car do you want. they both are pushing around 250 hp so since the tsx is smaller you are going to get a little better performance - but the nissan is torquey with the big v6.

Acura will always come out on top over Nissan.
If it's a better buy or not is hard to say. The particular condition of both vehicles involved in this question makes a big difference in relevance to how many miles they have, how they've been treated, etc...
Only you can find that out since we're dealing with 3 year old cars.

The Nissan has a timing chain vs. timing belt that has to be changed on the Acura. Also, Nissan makes MUCH better CV joints. Nissan does not hold it's value as well so you can get a used one cheaper than you can an Acura because it is more depriciated. Well, you know what my decision would be!

Congrats on being a smart buyer. You found two great cars. Pick the one you think looks the best. The pros and cons of each of these are so close that it is essentially a toss up.
If it were me, I'd pick the Acura based on looks alone.

Both cars would be a good choice, so I am going with your own personal preference on this. Which is more "you"? MPG? Front wheel drive? A lot of the standard questions to ask yourself before you make your choice. Try reading Car & Driver, they always have great articles on new and used cars and which are the better.
