Took home stray-hurt kitten from work. She was wandering the prison i work at. i keep her in the garage & had to train her to use the litter box. She poops in it but the make shift bed i made her w/heating pad and sheets she pees on it then sleeps there. Can anyone help me? I am continually washing the blankets & sheets that make her bed. It is cold here right now and she was weak but now gaining strength so i keep a heating pad on covered with bedding.

Maby she's marking her territory, I would suggest watching her for about 30min. after she drinks(I read animals generally use the bathroom 30min, after eating/drinking)and when she starts to pee outside the litterbox, pick her up and put her in the box, after she pees in there praise her.

Congratulations on being a caring person to take in this needing kitten. It's a wonderful thing. The first thing you should do, if you have not already, is take it to a vet. It may have other problems, and when a cat is peeing improperly it could first be a sign of a potentially lethal urinary tract infection. It should get it's first set of shots. If you have financial difficulties, contact your local Humane Society for guidance and references to free/low-cost shots. If you see flea bites or flea "dirt" it should be treated with Frontline. It should also be spayed/neutered ASAP, and again there are free/low-cost programs available in most cities. If you're not interested in keeping the kitten forever, you could always turn it over to the Humane Society with yourself down as a last resort if the kitten should be chosen to be put down for any other reason than serious health problems. Always rule out a health problem first with inappropriate urination. If you find it's behavioral, it may take some work. It may be a comfort thing to mark his territory. I have 4 males, and occasionally I have to wash couch cushions for the same reason! If you are keeping the cat, Feliway helps a lot to calm the kitten, spray it on the clean bedding (never on the cat!) or use the plugin near the bed. It can be found cheaper online. Lastly, remember an indoor cat can live an average of 15-18 years, so it is a commitment. An outdoor cat's average life span is 3-5 years. Cats do better indoors and loved.
