Ok..when a guy says I love you he is probably freakin out to see what your reaction is going to be...
he was probably waiting for a awwww you do..that's sweet or a smile or even a i love you back..
but you asked why so that made him uncomfortable and it made him see tha tyou probably don't feel the same...
yes, it's ok to ask why but not right there at least... you could ask in a nice why...why do you say you love me? is b/c im pretty my personality or im just perfect? and laugh at that...you know...gotta play safe so you don't hurt his feelings...
Now you have to talk to him and say i'm sorry that i reacted like that i was just surprised ...or do what you feel is right...

lol, he's ticked because you didn't give the right response. just tell him you are sorry and he caught you off guard, tell him you love him too. he'll probably said "why" first just to get back at you, but you'll have a good laugh

umm wow i see why u asked then...and then he obviously tried to deny it so h wouldnt feel so embarassed...he most likely felt shut down and unwanted when u asked him that[not to make u feel bad] so yea....thats what i think...
