Hi Melissa...please consider ringing the veterinary hospital where your cat was recently seen and mention the hematuria (blood in urine) as this could be indicative of internal hemorrhaging and truly needs to be mentioned so that the clinic staff can determine if he needs to be urgently evaluated as this can become life-threatening. Ideally, you want to keep your cat isolated in a small crate to prevent him from moving too much to help the bones set and heal safely.

I wish your kitty a quick recovery.

Go to a Veterinarian you trust. Then get the opinion of a Veterinarian who specializes in Orthopedic Surgery. Based on their information, you can make a sound decision regarding your much loved Kitty. Remember, that this could be a tough decision and it has to do totally with your kitty's quality of life not your emotional needs.
One additional point. In cases of trauma, pets often will not want to eat. It is critical to get them to mouth feed as soon as possible within 24 hours after injury so that their system will not start to shut down. Offer the tastiest foods in simple form. like fresh cooked chicken, tuna or whatever works.
Good Luck! I know what you're going through 'cuz I deeply love my pets.

Only a vet can help. You are the one who let him out and it is your fault he was hurt. He does not know better and you should be smart enough to keep him inside and happy and safe, as virtually all vets would suggest. Since you let this happen, you are responsible for helping him get better.

THIS IS A LESSON TO ALL THOSE THAT CONSIDER LETTING THEIR CATS OUTDOORS. THERE IS NO NEED FOR A DOMESTIC CAT TO ROAM FREELY OUTSIDE. THIS IS WHAT CAN HAPPEN...

My cats always enjoyed going outside once in a while with me supervising them. They wore an H-harness and were on a leash for their protection.

Adeline I cannot about that stuff, sorry, but you and I have had numerous discussions about cats, particularly yours, and I applaud you for asking the folks to chime in with poetry about cats with some specificity. Once as a young boy, Our cat Chingitskuk birthed four I was Dr. Thomas Bri, sat outside, Yes, in the country they were outdoor cats The delivery room was the back porch Right next to the dryer outlet, giving off heat The first three came out of her easily, one by one, Their names were Huey, Dewey and Little Louie The 4th entered this world like a waterlogged cocoon Thought she was dead, but I would not give up on her So I cleaned all the 'goo' off her and kept her warm Hours went by and I could see that she was alive My five brothers could not believe all I did to save this little kitty She lived, and I lived, and I was king of the hill in this sibling rivalry I named her Gooey, what a ladylike name I was so proud of her She was the ugly duckling, but to me, the most beautiful Most of my life, due to unforeseen events, I disliked cats Only after playing doctor and saving one and claiming victory The last several years though am a changed man for the better As Milo and Mia Marie run the show in our household. Peace _______________________________________... Edit: Addie: No, story was not sad on Gooey. All four became healthy kitties, though you could tell Gooey was different....a sort of ragamuffin... beauty comes in the eye of the beholder, and the saving of this little one helped me realize the beauty of the heart is more important than the exterior---not only that, but accentuates the outside, for as I said, Gooey was a beautiful kitty on the outside. This by the way also applies to human beings. lol From what I recall though, we had to give them all away. That is a good ending, because Dad would not let us keep the dogs and cats inside unless it got very cold outside. We did put a heater in the garage though, so they all had a warm refuge. _______________________________________...

take him to the vet or the emergency vet. if you are not financially able to afford the vet bill tell them this. some vets will allow you to pay them off. i can not afford a vet bill and just took in a stray kitten who is hurt. i explained my situation to the vet and they referred me to a VERY low cost clinic.

Take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Do not wait! You cannot properly care for him yourself right now, he needs professional attention.
