Someone wants to trade me this car for a wedding set and I need to know how much the car is worth before I can decide. Any info would be helpful.

I was sent a picture. Its in nice shape. Not sure on the miles. Am waiting to find that out. Im looking to trade my wedding set (I am an ex) to get a car for our son. I figured that would be a good way to get rid of the rings. They were bought for a little over $2200 in 97.

Look here for the value of the car and try to find one near you area. Read some of the descriptions to see what common issues have been repaired/replaced:

I would look at rust in the door jambs and especially under the carpet by putting pressure down on the floor with your feet - if it feels like it giving way, be cautious. Make sure the heat works as the heater channels tend to one of the first parts to rust out - nothing worse than a car with little or no heat if you need it!

Ask how is the engine, original or rebuilt. If rebuilt, ask how many miles on since. Drive the car to make sure it shifts properly. Ask how it starts in the cold.

Ask it they can bring it to a mechanic of your choosing to evaluate it. Remember, if you want to get rid of the wedding set and can plan to put some money into it, it may be worth the trade. DO NOT GIVE THE WEDDING SET TO THEM UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED AND THEY HAVE ALL THE PROPER PAPERWORK TO TRADE THE VEHICLE LEGALLY!

Good Luck!

First of all, don't waste your time trying to look it up on Kelley Blue Book........they don't rate cars past 1987 because there is NO WAY to tell what a 1972 model car is worth without seeing it. KBB is WORTHLESS on a car older than 5 yrs old. I am a car dealer and can tell you that an average 1972 Bug is going to sell for about $2000. Average means that it runs good, the interior is fair with some problems that can be fixed with not much effort. The paint is all there, but may be faded from age. It could be driven every day, but may leak a little something here and there. Now take that standard, and add or subtract for better or worse condition. If it barely runs and has dents, take $1000 off for that, or if it is a TOTAL PIECE take off $1500........but if it has new paint and looks great, no leaks......add $1000 or so. The last Bug I had was a 1973 and it was in better than average shape. I sold it on eBay for $1800, but it was during the winter when car sales were slow. Now everybody has their tax money to spend, so expect to do better than me! GOOD LUCK!

I don't know what a wedding set is...you didn't say what shape the car is in, if it runs or not, how many miles, etc. you can get the value from the blue book on line and can describe the condition so yo can get the true value...I love em..they are so very unique...

Does it matter. In your cases what matters is will both sides be getting a good deal. Have the car check to make sure it sound and if you would rather have it then the wedding set then trade.
