Today and last night I have been constantly coughing and it is making my throat feel red raw. I have just got over a throat infection...about 2 weeks back. Is it possible I have now got a chest infection? The cough is very painful. I am coughing so much at times that I feel like I am going to throw up or wretch. It hurts slightly to breathe and a bit to eat. What could be up?

Could be possible, yes. Sometimes the colds that start out in our heads or our throats can find their way down to the chest.
If you can, go to the drugstore and pick yourself up some Mucinex. It works great. One pill two times a day. It's a little pricey but worth it by all means.
If you want something cheaper, get some Robitussin expectorant. Don't buy the suppressant. What you want to do is get the congestion OUT. The expectorant will do that. The cough suppressant won't.
Meanwhile, along with all of the above, drink a lot of fluids, take some vitamin c and get some rest.
You should feel better in a couple of days.

is it like a smoker's cough ,LOL? Serious, you need a strong cold medicine to help clear it up, I recommend Buckley's. It is strong, get your chest cleared up and the coughing to stop. worked for me because i was cough so hard everyone thought I was dying in class. It cost at least $13 for a bottle. But it taste so nasty and smells horrible so hold your nose when you take it.
