I was just on this question thread http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070201080131AABD9tB&r=w&pa=FZptHWf.BGRX3OFMhjRWVMOVtyjHYdjp7Lp1AuVR__X_63rt2Q--&paid=answered#NbUvWjS1UDTvzVyNnip0

And a very common occurance happened. An Athiest made an assumption about how Christians believe, other Atheists agreed (some very rudely) and yet all the Christians (including myself) said otherwise. Have any of the Atheist that answered this question, and other similar questions, ever looked at the answers of the Christians and thought "Hey... I guess they really dont think like that"? or "Maybe the ones who do think this way are in the minority of Christians"?

Sorry Pheonix... I don't see a comparison here.

Yeah usually once or twice a week I see one thats different.

The coolest was the guy who said he thought gay people should have rights it broke the mold for me but that was in email.

I think the real connections have to come from emails and instant messages, like how you and I connected.

Edit: I disagree with Phoenix, and you will note I did not answer the question you referenced.

First, the questions states that one person "reacted violently". Were you there to know they didn't? He makes no assumptions only that he made a statement were a Fundamentalist "reacted violently." I had this happen to me once, though that's not the general rule.

You yourself make this statement: "An Atheist scientist certainly doesn't want to discover it, because then he has to rethink being an Atheist." This is an assumption of how an atheist believes. While I am not an atheist, your statement implies that the reason an atheistic scientist "hasn't discovered anything in the way of the Spiritual" is for the reason you give. This is not true. The search of science is absolute truth. God by his very nature is neither provable or disprovable, therefore unknowable and beyond the realm of science. Science cannot be based on religious faith.

I agree with Phoenix, you are guilty of this as anyone else.

Most Atheists and Pagans are Ex christians, such a thing exists, even if the christian refuses to acknowledge it, they have been abused spiritually by christians.

Perhaps it is the reason for thier rudeness, because of personal experience with christians, and i know that christians love the new catch phrase *they were not true christians* but it just makes the ex christian even angrier, its like pouring lemon juice on an open wound.

Yeah, I didn't really get that question. But I think it happens on both sides. I think if you hang outhere long enough, you recognize the people who break the mold. But the mold is still there and unfortunately everyone uses preconceived notions as a sort of short-hand in order to navigate.

Wow. Can you say pot, cuz I think you're calling the kettle black.

Do you see how you just did exactly what you just complained about?

And did you notice that he quite clearly specified "fundamentalist"?

I also suppose that all the Christians jumping on the crazy "atheists don't want to change their lifestyle", "atheists have never given God a chance", "atheists are mad at God", etc. bandwagons aren't doing the exact same thing? This is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous Christian rants I have read yet. And I used to think you took a more intelligent approach.

Some people are eh-holes. We all know this. Now let's stop acting like we're so surprised about it or that it applies to everyone.

I do read the other answers.

What I have observed with most conservative Christians is that they will talk one line to your face but what they practice is something completely different. There is an inherent dishonesty present.

ahh some people tend to lump everybody into one particular category which in itself is ignorant which is why i try not to generalize a whole group of people based on the actions of a few
