I have seen suspension bridges between hills or similar vertical structures. How do people manage to install them?

Once the towers are up, which are usually built from the ground up, temporary tension cables are strung over the top of the towers from mountain side to mountain side. Then specialized "cable spinners" ride along the tension cables, laying out the thousands of strands of wire that will make up the suspension bridge cables. Once the main cables are in place, everything else is hung from them.

There's a variety of ways to get that first temporary tension cable over the top of the towers. It can even be done by hand, by climbing the towers and hauling "lead stringers" which are then used to pull the main tension cables. Use of helicopters is not really necessary, but it's been done that way too.
