Number one :- question. where do you think the lowest point of your swing should be? After the ball is the correct answer ,in other words your club head is still travelling downwards at the point of impact. How does this occur in the swings of all good players? Because 180% of body weight, in pressure is located on the left foot at the moment of impact!!!! How does this happen? Because all good players(professionals and low handicap amateurs) have a correct and very necessary lateral shift of the lower body (pelvis in particular) in the transitional (between the upswing and the downswing) part of the swing. Difficult but can be learnt with a good professional teacher. This lateral shift produces a swing shape that is eliptical rather than circular which many amateurs believe is or should be the swings shape.

A lot of beginners have a tendency to try to scoop the ball with their irons, in an effort to get the ball up. In reality, the high ball flight from your irons are produced by hitting down on the ball. Therefore, I agree with several of the answers above: your divot should be in front of the ball, as this proves you are making contact with the ball first, not with the ground first. I also agree with the responder above regarding your weight. I can't explain the technicalities as well as he did, but if your weight is on your back foot at impact, there is no way you will be able to hit your irons effectively and consistently.

Hit down--don't scoop. Make contact with ball first.

this happens because of a couple of different reasons. 1. you are rocking back and not recovering on the down swing your left foot (if you are right handed) is coming off the ground and moving back. some people call it " stepping in the bucket". 2. your ball position could also be wrong. It will feel strange at first, but, try puting the ball more towards your rear foot.

you are hitting the ball fat. try playing the ball more back in your stance. for an iron shot, the ball should be placed in the middle of your stance. if it already is, try moving it back a little. if that still doesn't work, try turning more into the ball and using your hips.

You have to be consistent in your setup. Buy a Stance Minder: https://www.asseenontvnetwork.com/vcc/stanceminder/stanceminder/162205/

Also, try not to hit the ball so much. Just sweep the ground like your practice swing. I have the same problem, I don't want to top it and then come down too hard and hit the ground.

Good luck

You could be placing the ball too far forward in your stance. For a while, try to place every iron in the middle of your stance, or as close to that as you can get.

I had this same problem, and that fixed it for me.

You need to address the ball correctly and watch the club hit the ball... Try aligning your stick with your belly button. Your ball should be right in front of your clubface...

You are probably letting your shoulder dip down on your down swing or you might be lifting up your head that can do it too. Keep your head down, eyes on the ball until contact and don't let your shoulder fall, keep it square to the ball. Hope this helps.

I'm no expert but id say your probably standing either to close or over the top of the ball too much

Try placing the ball back a little in your stance or choke up on the club a little.
