It sounds great but make sure you are watching your intake as well. Don't fall for fad diets that you can't keep. Try Weight Watchers. It really works and you can keep it off. Good luck.

Continue building up your time. It will be difficult to put on muscle on an elliptical trainer, just keep the resistance fairly low (under 5). I speak from experience because I have lost a total of 25 lbs, using primarily the elliptical trainer. I still have much more to go, but 25 lbs is not bad!

When I first began using it, I could only stay on for like 5 minutes but I stuck it out and now I do 60 minute hill workouts with a level 5 resistance. I keep a pace between 130-160 steps per minute. After an hour, I have usually done about 7,500 - 8,000 steps.

Like a previous poster stated, be careful not to overtrain. I am not a professional trainer, but this is something you can guage yourself. Make sure you breath properly (in hale slowly, exhale slowly). Actually, mastering your breathing will help you out a lot, especially when you are feeling like giving up.

I average about 3 days per week in the gym at 60 minutes each but I am trying to get disciplined enough to be in there for 6 days a week. 60 minutes of cardio each day is NOT TOO MUCH - just build yourself up slowly and it will become second nature to your body.

Get an ipod because an hour can be really long if you are bored. Also, early mornings seem to be the best time because it's over and the day is yours - you feel great first things in the morning.

The key to weight loss is eating right AND exercising. I have not mastered both 100%, so I don't want to seem preachy but just keep up with the exercising and start eating more healthy and the results will become your motivation and reward.

One more thing, if you really got a good eating plan and really stepped it up on the trainer (6 days/wk with 60 min cardio) you could definitely have the 75 lbs off by the Summer or early Fall.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Sounds like you are headed in the right direction. It is very wise to start off small and gradually increase - this will keep you from burning out, but will get you results. You should start to truly feel a difference in about two weeks and really start seeing results in four weeks - from there on the results should just continue to grow as long as you stick to it and increase our time put into it. You will have a weight loss, but you need to understand that you may gain muscle because you are using muscles that you probably haven't in awhile - especially in the legs. You don't bulk up by any means, but you will see some definition forming on your upper thighs. Keep up the good work!

You need to keep a record of your heart rate during the workout. I'd build a cardio base first. Get to the point where you can do 60 minutes a day with at least a heart rate of 130 bpm. (70 minutes total, it takes about 10 minutes to warmup the body gradually to 130bpm)

At this point I would incorporate intervals into your training. Do intervals where you set the elliptical on a high level and get your heart rate up to as close to 220 - age as possible. In between each interval come back to a low level where you allow recovery, do not let the heart rate go below 130 bpm in these rest intervals. For more details, search "high intensity interval training".

Ellipticals are great for burning calories. If you are feeling the burn and not completely out of breath, then you are doing enough. Not to discourage you, be careful not to over train. Injury or a burn out are almost inevitable.

I just started a jogging plan on the treadmill and one of the most important factors is not to do too much. When you first start something take it easy.

They say that you don't get your heart beating fast enough to lose weight until about 30min into a work out. (or so i was told) I would bump it up too 45 min. Just count your calories and work out and the rest will take care of its self. Good luck with everything.
