What are affordable ways to deocrate without getting into debt.
My husband and I are doing each room slowly.

What it a nice color scheme for tan neurtal colors without being gaudy?

Spread framed family photos around the apartment. You can group them on side tables and on the walls. Next get some color by adding some colored pillows and floral arangements to match your style. Don't foregt the kitchen and baths, they need some small touches, like matching your towels and any shower curtains with a small area rug . Also, remember that a home thats decorated slowly with one accent piece at a time usually will look more homey in the long run, than one that is all done in a small amount of time and is too matchy matchy.

As far as your tan neutral colors, if your sofa is tan then you could almost add any color to the room. What I like to do is switch out my florals and accents with the seasons. I use alot of reds in the winter and more yellow and pinks in the spring and i love navy blue in the summer. If you want to stay monochromatic with your tans then take your favorite color and pop it around the rooms like in pillows, candles, thows, accents etc.

If you really need to keep the color downplayed then you could use pillows etc that have small patterns in the fabric like paisleys that go great with tan but does not really add another color to the room, and use wood, basket weave, and metal accents like a black metal candle stick on the coffee table.

An affordable way to decorate is to always keep your eye open for a bargain. Go to your local thrift shops, antique malls and last season stores like Marshalls and Ross before you drop thousands on a brand new designer piece. Oh and don't forget to check ebay and craigs list.

Listen....don't get too stressed out about decorating and all that.
Making a house feel like a home comes from your love for one another. Neutral colors are the best to work with because any color will go. Shop around yardsales and fleamarkets you can find some real treasures there for pennies. Also try the Habitat for Humanity store. They have a lot of great buys for almost nothing.
Paint is a cheap way to decorate too. Whatever you do.....do it together and have fun at it. Thats where "home" really starts.

Go to vintage or thrift shops they will make it fun.You have your taste set already, just bring it out.Get something with burgundy to set against the tan neutral color.Something to start a conversation over.Lamps are great.End tables are wherever you find them.Have fun and when you're thru it will be home---yours.
