The Old Testament has been maintained as a companion to the New Testament due to its relevance, teachings, and prophetic messages. The names do nothing more than distinguish the time periods between the two major covenants between God and man. The first covenant was formed with the Jewish people through Abraham. The second covenant was made with all men through Christ's blood on the cross, his death and sealed by Christ's resurrection.

The Old Testament can also be used to verify the validity of the Bible through research of it's prophesies and prophetic fulfillment not to mention the archaeological and Jewish tradition of scribes.

Just titles. History needs means to locate facts.
The Old is what the Jews rely on.....their history.
The new covers a summary of what Jesus apostles and followers did about what they learned.
The new also covers explanations of what to expect in the future.
True, some of it is hidden from some, but it is explained by those who have been given knowledge, to teach and reprove.
