I have a 2 yr old alpha corgi, and I need something that doesn't shed that is small, and that doesn't typically bark. Any suggestions are welcome.

A submissive male would be best. I would avoid having 2 females in the household. Two females can work out wonderfully BUT if there are problems it can turn tragic as two competing females usually fight until there is only one remaining.

YOU should be the alpha female. I also agree that you should probably get a male, but it doesnt really matter as i have 2 females and 3 males and its only 2 of my dogs that fight and its my only intact male and female. Making sure that they are both desexed will help. Having another dog that is too submissive can invite bullying from the alpha so make sure your pup can hold their own and have their own space eg crate. If you love the corgi breed, get another, or i would suggest a miniature pincer.

I agree with the poster about getting a male. It doesn't make a lick of difference what breed you get. Dog brain is dog brain. I don't care what others tell you. Gender matters. Females are more likely to fight with each other, as are males. In a pack, only one male and one female is allowed to breed, and they will compete for this right, sometimes to the death. Many people have two same-gendered dogs, and they get along marvelously, but it's usually easier with two neutered males. Females are really tough, but you can get luck. Altering the dogs helps this behavior somewhat, but it is no guarantee that they won't fight anymore. You can't hide from instinct.

When you are choosing a puppy, you will want to observe the litter as they interact with each other. You will need to visit several times, so that you can really watch each puppy.

You don't want the puppy that runs to you first, or the one that knocks aside his litter mates to get to the food (feeding time is perfect for observation). The dogs that do that tend more toward alpha.

Conversely, you don't want the puppy that hangs back very shy. These dogs tend to grow up nervous and are difficult to work with. Your ideal puppy will be somewhere in the middle, content to let the bullies get there first, but following along pretty close behind.

Your puppy should also be temperament tested. This is when they do stuff like shake out a garbage bag, hit a garbage can lid with a stick, that kind of thing. The way a puppy reacts to this stuff tells a lot about whether he will be more aggressive, or potentially a fear biter. An ideal puppy will be curious about the noise, but not run at it, nor away from it.

Another good place to find a dog is at a shelter. You can see them interacting with each other, and the shelter person should be able to give you a rundown on her observations on the behavior of each dog and their relationships within the shelter pack.

People do not establich the alpha status among 2 or more dogs. The dogs establish that on their own.

First, another corgi would be best. Second, your current dog will establish her alpha position with any new dog introduced to the house. Do your research on how to do this best. Good luck.

I would get another corgi. Preferably a submissive one to prevent dominance competitions. I don't think the gender matters as long as the new dog will submit to the one you have now.

You should get a male, there will be less tendency to fight.
