We take a snack for seven kids to my middle granddaughter's pre school class several times a month. They ask that it be fairly healthy as in no cakes or cookies. Things like fruit, cheese, crackers, etc. and a drink. The kids are TIRED of Goldfish! Got any inexpensive, healthy, easy ideas that don't positively HAVE to be refrigerated?

How about the fruit cups that come in the plastic? You can get so many different kinds: mixed fruit, pineapple, pear, peaches, etc. Or you could try the kind with gel (jello). How about cracker sandwiches with almond butter or sunflower seed butter or cashew butter (something a little different)? Depending on how long it is not refrigerated maybe ants on a log (celery with peanut butter and raisins). Carrot sticks? How about some healthy whole grain muffins? I'm attaching link for my son's favorite, we sub whole wheat pastry flour for the all-purpose flour, cut the sugar to 1/2 cup and use 150% of the spices (cinnamon and nutmeg add sweetness). They have pumpkin (veggies), whole wheat and oats (whole grain), and are tasty!!! They cook up pretty quick, too (although mine seem to take 25 minutes as opposed to the 15-20 they suggest). Or whole grain zucchini bread or banana bread. Kashi just came out with some whole grain cookies that are scrumptious and healthy. They also make fantastic granola bars (we like the pumpkin spice) that are whole grain. Hope these help. Good luck!

Cook cheese quesadillas ahead of time cut them into wedges. They are fine at room temp and travel really well, too. Plus it's not expensive since you're buying small tortillas and grated cheese- just 2 ingredients.

I like cheese, crackers with apples. My 3 year old loves grapes with cheese straws - they're more interesting to him than crackers because of their shape.

Cucumber slices, baby carrots, and celery with little individual ranch dressings travel well and are always well received with my kids. The individual ranch dressings come in 8 packs and are in the salad dressing aisle.

We LOVE Welch's fruit snacks, and they come in three different flavor combos. Sold at Super Targets, Walmart and online at Amazon.com. Even grown ups love these things like crazy~

Juice boxes are the easiest, self contained drinks for me to deal with on the go. Juicy Juice is 100% juice and my kids love the fruit punch and berry.

Best of luck to you on this, I'm sure you're going to get great ideas from everyone.

We had Yogos for snack yesterday. (Kelloggs brand yogurt snack) You could also try the Handi-snacks (cheese and crackers) or we had Trix yogurt and all of the kids loved it! I know it needs refrigeration but if it's winter outside, you can keep it in your vehicle for an hour instead of bringing it in right away at school. Teddy Grahams, Ritz dinosaurs, Peppridge Farms Swirl Bread (it's like a treat!)....

you could try little packaged of fruit snacks... boxed juice (Capri suns can be served without having to be refirgerated.) Also, Quaker Oats has little packages of different flavored "breakfast bites" that my daughter enjoys. Grapes... cheese crackers. Just pass the snack food aisle in Wal Mart and you'll get plenty of ideas :)

cereal bars with low sugar, such as those you would find in a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods Market. My toddler daughter loves them. One box would cost you $3 max and there's enough for everyone. That and a little milk or 100% juice box would be a great snack.

you got lots of good ideas, just be aware that many preschools will not allow popcorn, grapes, etc. for fear of choking and most prohibit anything with nuts of any kind due to the prevalence of allergies--this makes it harder!! but the rice cakes someone mentioned are a big hit at our preschool as are graham cracker sticks, cheese cubes, pretzels

different veggies with some ranch dressing, raw veggies can go without refridge and bring a new bottle of ranch dressing , i would ask your granddaughter what she would like as snack, ask her what her favorite snack someone has brought in was, she will give you the best ideas, good luck, that is so nice you are so involved with her life
