Is it just me, or do god's plans seem kind of sick and pointless at times? Like the other day I was reading about this 3 year old girl who drowned in her neighbor's pool and her mother was saying, "I miss my child but it was just god's plan". Why would god PLAN to have a little girl fall in a pool so that she coud suffer in extreme fear (takes 10 minutes to drown!) until water filled her lungs and killed her, then have this poor mother find her dead baby? WHY would anyone call that god's plan??? If they have to beleive a higher power is responsible, couldn't they at least call it satan's plan or something?

Because that is what they are taught to believe. Many New Agers claim everything is written, and many think these things cannot be changed. I do not.
Things are not that tightly controlled. Things are indeed "written", and will come about
if one stays on the path they are on. But there is always the element of Free Will. And
prayer and positive action can change the course of events.
It is very destructive to our spiritual healing to claim everything is Allah's will. We live in a material world. If someone runs their head into a brick wall, it will hurt. And "sometimes", there are just accidents!

It is not God's plan for bad things to happen to people. Satan is the ruler of this world and much of the suffering is because of his influence. Rev 12: 12 "Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the Devil has come down to you having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time."

Things happen too by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Ecc. 9: 11 "time and unforeseen occurrence befalls us all." Example: Tornado last night in Central Florida and 14 people died. I only live 70 miles from there and we had Tornado warnings too. So it could have hit anywhere in Central Florida.
Aren't the experts saying the the extreme weather is due to man's ruining the earth?

It's unfair to blame God. This is also Satan's plan to cause people to doubt God, or think he is a cruel God.

When these things happen, God has given us the hope of seeing loved ones whom have died, when they are resurrected. John 5:28 "..all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.." And no God did not need another Angel. He has myriads of angels. Heb 12:22; Jude 14; Rev. 5:11

Yes, satan's plan is to kill, steal and destroy. They either spoke incorrectly or are misled. On the other hand God's ways are higher than ours and we do not understand everything about Him. Could that drowning have been avoided? Probably yes, but where was the mother? Perhaps this little girl's life would have been more painful than we know and our Lord was saving her from that.

Because they have no other explanation for it. I had a friend die from a car accident, a few days after it happened. All I heard from my religious friends was that it was gods plan. I thought to myself this was one of the nicest, most amazing people on this planet and god said oh he's done now will have him hydroplane and slam into a concrete barrier at 55 miles an hour. And the worst of it is, the guy with him survived. That wasn't a damn plan... that was an accident he was 19. OH and that story, that mother wanted the kid to die because she's the one who left her alone outside next to the pool.

This is the same twisted god that drowned almost everybody in the world - including kittens and such.

(is drowning really painful, though? I recall a diver explaining the extreme pain only lasts a few seconds until unconsciousness - but I'm not sure if that's correct)

Dean: was god unable or unwilling to save the girl from satan?

I've been a Christian for many years and I would never attribute those things to God's plan. God punished His own son on a cross so He wouldn't have to punish us. The issue you are addressing is related to the free will of man. God gave man the freedom to make choices in life. Some choices according to His plan or "His will";and some choices go against His commands and they produce pain and suffering. The bible tells us that the theif comes to steal, kill, and destroy ... referring to Satan. So why do people blame God for the devil's work or their own poor choices. I wish I could tell you why...I can only guess they are decived into believing a lie about a God who is good.

because they lack the self esteem to just accept it as a random tragic happening.

If thier feeble minds entertained the thought that there was no reason for it and it could just have easily happened to them as well, thier minds will begin to wander and they will be unable to make sense of the world bieng thrust into a new reality. Religion is thier mental crutch to deal with and make sense of the world.

If all the religious people all of a sudden woke up and had to face reality, we wouldn't have enough anti-psycotic drugs to go around.

I think that Christians are just as likely as any other member of the planet to give that answer - so it's not a specifically Christian statement.

I don't believe it is God's plan to take life. In the mythical story of the Garden of Eden we learn that God's plan is to create and preserve life, and to keep life truly free by offering choice. In the story of Jesus we learn that God's plan is to undo the power of death through forgiveness, reconciliation and resurrection. God's plan is good, holy and life-affirming.

It's one of the ways that they dismiss that a horrible thing happened. It was "god's plan" and "she's in a better place" makes people feel better than the truth that she died and suffered horribly and is now underground and you'll never see her again. It just makes it easier for them to take, I guess.

In the view of physical science, every observable phenomenon can be explained on the bases of the known laws of nature or laws yet to be discovered. If there is a phenomenon that we cannot understand or explain with our present state of knowledge, then we have to await future discoveries and developments. The fact that we do not understand an event or a phenomenon should drive us to seek an understanding of it. There are no mysteries in science; everything has a scientific explanation.
