Tell your mother you will continue counseling and it will go much better if you like the counselor. Ask if you can have a female counselor. I am not sure why a teenage girl is seeing a male counselor. Even adults don't even like their counseler due to differences in personality types, approaches to the client's issues, and gender of the counselor. And those adults won't make any progress until they find a counselor that they feel comfortable with. Your mom is only hampering your therapy by forcing you to see someone you don't like. If my daughter was a teen, I would definitely want a female counselor for her if she should need therapy. Good luck. Show her this answer if it helps. I'm a mom.

getting help should not be uncomfortable.. I have at least 7 or 8 therapist and none of them worked for me.. their techniques sucked. I have had the one I have now for 11 years.. Tell your mom that you think another FEMALE therapist would be better for you because she can relate to you better. Tell her that you are not comfortable with the one you have now.. and ask her if she would be willing to let you try to see another one. It may take you several to find the right one..but she is out there. BTW, mine is a male and I can tell him things I would NEVER tell a women..everything from bad days to sex. They have heard it all.
