I woke up with a bad headache this morning (something I never do usually) I went to the gym last night and dont think I drank enough water, after drinking a couple of big glasses this morning and a couple of pills I was fine. how much water should I be drinking during a 45 minute gym work out to stop myself from dehydrating?

Its not about just drinking water though your work out....most of your intake should be during the day. I drink very little when Im at the gym as it tends to give me a stitch, or slops around in my tummy, which isnt nice, but I drink at least 2L of water during the day and then another 1L after my work out.

A good indicator to know if you're getting enough fluids into you, is the colour of your pee! It should be clear or very pale yellow - anything more than that and you need to get drinking - water that is, not caffeine or alcohol!!

Good Luck!

You need 8 glasses of water a day. if you are only working out for 45 min then you just need enough to replace what you are sweating out. 1 cup before and 1 cups after should be enough but if you are thirsty drink more. It is always Ok to keep drinking if you are thirsty. Just make sure you are urinating OK , spread it out over the day and don't let those crazy nuts out there convince you to drink too much or that will make you sick too. It's not like you are running a marathon. And if you are drinking at least 8 glasses though out your day you should be fine. Take a vitamin maybe you are low on potassium. A gatoraide may be a good idea to replace electrolytes. Remember drinking alchol will dehydrate you too.

As much as you can. I would say at minimum 32 ounces. Especially if you're focusing on cardio. Your body needs water to help the muscles heal and rejuvinate after a workout. You may have felt hungover, since it's essentially the same thing. You're body dehydrates and causes a headache.

Be sure to drink lots of water throughout the day. I try for about a gallon over the course of a day. That's about 8 oz. every hour, not that much when you break it down.

drink as much as you can.. but not so much that you make yourself feel ill and slow down your work up. I'd try to take with you a drink such as hydro-active which helps you stop becoming dehydrating and is specially designed with exercising in mind. When you get out of the gym remember to drink at least a large glass of water.

Well done for going to the gym.
Good luck

At least one before you start, and two at least during the 45 minutes, and one at the end, as you,are perspiring out the first two at least, whilst you are doing your gym work. Everybody should be drinking at LEAST over eight pints of water a day in order to keep the body functioning well, to purify the blood and liver, kidneys, as these flush out all toxins from the body.

Its not just the gym work out thats causing problems its also your intake over one day,
Read the others about gym work out liquid intake.
dehydration does strange things and can mean being hospitalised on a drip. Stay healthy and hydrated.

You should be drinking at least 8 (8oz.) servings of water per day and more if you exercise. Pay attention to the color of your urine. If your urine is a dark gold color your body is dehydrated. If it is a pale color your hydration level is correct. Paying attention to your output will help you determine if you need to be drinking more. Otherwise by the time you end up with a headache you have to overcompensate to get back to normal.

Well, I do an hours water aerobics and drink about 2 litres worth, even tho I hardly sweat. So I guess 2 litres would be a good start and any more is not going to do yourself any harm. But you definately need to re-hydrate.

You will also need to replace your blood sugars so drink lucozade or something like that after a work out (not during) or eat a chocolate bar.

i take a water bottle that cyclists use and drink two full bottles during a workout of about 1 hr. it also matters if you are doing cardio or risitance training, risistance needing less liquid and more sugars, so a glucose drink in that case.
