I would like some advice on how to structure the storey line, detail the characters and conduct research etc.

yes, I have found an awesome site, since I too am a writer. It is a christian site, and you do have to confess being a christian. It is a good place to go and not only share your stories and poems but to get some good advice from other poets and writers as well. it is FaithWriters.com - There are so many challenges on this site, you would be amazed.
