My friend did his basic training as a MP. Now he is at AIT, for 17 weeks. After he fnishes AIT, is he free to move to Canada (from America) with having a job not in the army? Or does he have to do his time in Iraq? He told me, they're not allowed to sent him there for some reason.

No, why would he join the military and plan to move to canada? I hate to tell you, but if he is an MP, his probability of going to Iraq is about 98%. I am an MP, and we are in demand over there and afghanistan. We do more than write tickets. We are primarily used as convoy escorts and EPW (enemy prisoner of war) duties, along with PSD. Unless he gets assigned to a MI battalion, he probably will go, unless he can't deploy for a medical reason.

There's something you're not understanding or that he's not telling you. The only reason he could not have a job in the miltary is if he was a reservist, and even then, he'd have to serve 1 weekend a month and one week a year, and would be eligible for any deployment if his unit is called upon. They could send him to Iraq any time they decided to. No soldier is "exempt" from serving unless they're undeployable. If he was an undeployable soldier, they would not have sent him on to AIT. It means he's not fit for service. That can't be the case, because he's obviously at AIT.

As for moving to Canada, this makes no sense to me. He is under legal obligation to be available to his unit at all times. No, a civilian can not serve as an MP.

Well if he is in the Reserves or N. Guard after AIT he goes back home unless he has orders to go to Iraq or else-where. If he moves to Canada he has to join a unit near Canada and commute there once per month for his drills.

I dont understand your question. Are you and your friend afraid about him or her being sent to iraq and wants to emigrate to canada? Then why did your friend joined the armed forces in the first place? If he/she is doing her first ait then he or she must have know about the mess in iraq. It started about 2003. I dont think that the us army would take it easy if youre friend is try to leave befor his or hers first contract is completed. And dont even think about desertion! They will hunt him or her down and sent him or her to prison for a long time. The best thing is to stay in untill he or she can get out and hope for the best! If you have putted yourself in then you have to stay in untill the end! Johan

No, they take the oath just like everyone else in the military.

He doesn't necessarily have to do time in Iraq, I can see if they wouldn't send him for health reasons and whatnot. But as for just military police in general, they are military servicemen until the day they get discharged.

Nope. A soldier is knowledgeable to handle a very different set of issues then a civilian cop. A soldier is closer to shoot first & ask why later, and can be completely unprepared to handle combating couples or wayward drunks. i substitute into in the army for over 0.5 my existence, & my oldest son is a cop, and that i does not have the faintest concept a thank you to handle lots of the stuff he walks into. And his adventure & education may be a detriment in a try against challenge ( sorry, son ). he's knowledgeable to think of issues via, to maintain an open strategies, and to objective & stay out of difficulty, the place i substitute into continually the 1st to decide for the hardware.
