Does anyone run photoshop and/or illustrator CS2 off of a laptop? if so what is an acceptable spec processor-wise? I am looking at a Celeron 1.73ghz, with 1gig ram Thanks.

no celeron!!

Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processor is the best,
and need 2 gig ram,
for CS , it is a must
it even faster than a intel p4 old tower computer,

It is good for photoshop as it need more power,
how do i know that? i do a test to compare.

Vet, I will not suggest him to buy a laptop , then download a the software to test, it is stupid.......

Yeah, stay away from the celeron - it's slow even just for 'normal' stuff.

PS is about as close as any of us will ever get to a program that requires a 'super computer'.

In other words, the more that you can give it, the more it will take and eat it up and smile.

Go for a current, high end chip. If you want a notebook - I use them myself - fine, but know, that all things being equal, the notebook with 'such and such' a CPU spec and RAM, will be slower than a desktop/tower with the same specs. That is the trade-off for the portability and lessened power consumption...

Not sure how much the dual core really helps with the current version (CS2), having used on Athlon 64, Centrino and lately Core 2 Duo notebooks, can't say I have seen a significant difference while doing the same operations. Not that I would give my dual core away - just don't think it is huge.

Anyway, I would stay away from the Celeron, it is a dog...

Actually I'm using the Adobe programs you mention on a PC with a Celeron 1.7 GHz, 1 GB DDR and a Sapphire X1300XT and I had no problems. We have to remember that the Celeron is a Pentium 4 with less cache memory.
So I think you have only to be sure that your laptop graphic card has at least 256 MB of reserved memory (and not shared).

Although PS CS2 does not list the celeron processor in it's minimum specs for running it, there's always the chance that it may run fine, but a bit on the slow side.

I would get the trial and see if it runs before going any further.
