Adam was the main line variation of mankind that God created to become the father of all the nations of planet earth.
It was about the same time that civilizations started about 6,000 years ago.
Here is both the Hebrew and English translation.
5 Vechol siach hasadeh terem yihyeh va'aretz vechol-esev hasadeh terem yitzmach ki lo himetir HASHEM Elokim al-ha'aretz ve'adam ayin la'avod et-ha'adamah.
All the plants of the fields were not yet on the earth, and all the herbal vegetation of the field had not yet sprouted, for HASHEM G-d had not brought rain upon the earth, and there was [yet] no man to work the soil.
6 Ve'ed ya'aleh min-ha'aretz vehishkah et-kol-penei ha'adamah.
A mist rose up from the earth, and it watered the entire surface of the soil.
7 Vayitzer HASHEM Elokim et-ha'adam afar min-ha'adamah vayipach pe'apav nishmat chayim vayehi ha'adam lenefesh chayah.
HASHEM G-d then formed the man, dust from the ground, and He blew into his nostrils the breath of life. And so man became a living soul.
Here Adam = mankind,or man.
al-ha'aretz ve'adam ayin la'avod et-ha'adamah.

MANKIND ADHAM

Most have read when Cain talked with Abel and in the field killed him.
Gen.4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
God then cursed and drove Cain out, and Cain said.
Gen.4:14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
WHO IS CAIN WORRIED ABOUT?
Gen.4:17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
WHERE DID CAIN FIND A WIFE?
The answer is in the Hebrew text of (Gen.1:26 and Gen.2:7).

Well some one had to be a single man to start things off. I'm sure not a whole bunch of men popped up at one time no matter how it happened. Unless you have your own explanation. Why are you answering your own question. Are you a nitwit? Or do you just think you are smarter than every one else?
