Officially, about 15.
From experience, more like 18.
Various Internet sites put it at about 15 years, but my parents have had many cats over the years and I'd say it's more like 17 or 18. I have two cats (one of each sex) who will be 17 this year. Both seem relatively healthy still, though the male is getting a bit arthritic.
A friend of mine had a male that lived to be 21, and there are reports on the net of cats living to 30 or more.

The oldest we have seen at our surgery was 26 years old. On average, a pedigree cat will survive 10-13 years, but ordinary moggies will regularly get past 15. Lifestyle plays a big part with cats - outdoor cats get run over, get into fights and contract cat aids for instance.
The same applies to humans, though there are considerably less pedigree humans about - outside Palaces anyhow. Thank God for hybrid vigour

Indoor cats can live up to 16-18 years while outdoor cats have a lifespan of only about 3-5 years. Keep your kitty inside :)

Indoor cats, either male or female, can live upto 17 years or so. The outdoor cat average is 3 years because of all the dangers (poison, animal attacks, disease and cars)

Cats male or female generally live for a while. I have a male cat and he is 16 and still kickn'! Granted, he has given us a couple of scares and we've had the whole dug already, but he always seems to pull through!

If he is kept indoor, he has a good chance of living 10 to 12 years. My parents have a male cat who is actually closer to 16. Or perhaps older: He had long since reached his full growth when my nephew was born 13 years ago.

In captivity, indoor cats typically live 14 to 20 years, though the oldest-known cat lived to age 36. Domestic cats tend to live longer if they are not permitted to go outdoors (reducing the risk of injury from fights or accidents and exposure to diseases) and if they are spayed or neutered. Some such benefits are: neutered male cats cannot develop testicular cancer, spayed female cats cannot develop ovarian cancer, and both have a reduced risk of mammary cancer.
