K-mart still has their layaway. I have never put anything on layaway at Walmart but just the same, the should not have did away with their layway. That's just plain mean!!!! By the way...I volunteer at a soup kitchen and i found out Walmart does not donate anything to the soup kitchen....I was so shocked!! What do they do...throw away the food instead?? Applebees, publix, krispy kreme doughnuts donates and thats awesome!!

Ya know, I didnt know this..I need to check with our Wal-Mart, and see if they have stopped doing this.
This upsets me..How about we write a letter to the President of Wal-Mart and let him know, how we feel.
I do know that K-Mart still has layaways..
I grew up in Bentonville, Arkansas, I knew Sam,he was the door greeter at the first store, for years, when I was a child, went to school with his grandson.
Lets send a letter to this address..
Wal-Mart Home Offices
C/O President
702 Southwest 8th Street
Mail Stop 0130
Bentonville, Arkansas 72716
Phone Number 479-273-4000
Here is the website, maybe you can go there, and send a comment or an email
http://www.walmartstores.com
I got ALL this off of the WEB, so it shouldnt be a problem to post it.
I need to check with my store today, and see if they still offer layaway, and if not, I will write a letter or call ASAP.
This does make it hard for people....and esp people with children.
Hope this helps some..

If it's just clothing that you put on layaway, Marshalls and TJMaxx still have layaway the last time I checked.
Suggestion if you still want to shop at WalMart for whatever reason, or any store you like that does not offer layaway, you could buy gift cards for yourself little by little, in the same manner you would make layaway payments. When you have accumulated the amount that you budgeted in total, go shopping and get everything you need at once. This might actually work to your advantage because gift cards usually don't have any fee (layaway does!) and you can use your prepaid gift cards for sale and clearance merchandise which you can't always do with layaway.

Oh! I was pissed! We to need a layaway and Wal-mart is the only department stare in our area. I understand that there having problems with people who don't pick up there layaway and there is merchaindice that is not for sale in there stores any longer so they have to take a loss. But COME ON! People like us need it! People who don't have a lot of extra money at one time and need to pay for things slowly to insure our kids have the same Christmas or Back to School as there friends.

I also dislike Wal-Mart greatly. Not so much because of the layaway policy, although I understand your frustration with the situation, I worked at Wal-Mart for about 2 yrs. they are not all that people think they are. I also have tried to boycott Wal-Mart and not shop there, but how can you not go for the best prices, with money as tight as it is? Try K-Mart, Target, or Roses

Wal-Mart has always tried to portray their business as "family friendly"...personally I don't buy it. Through the years they have bankrupted several businesses. They created their own brands and own bank so they didn't have to pay anyone. Now they are phasing out programs that help many people. Alot of people depend on the layaway to hold their necessities until they can come up with enough money. They say they are small town and family friendly... but they are just another horrid corporation bent on making fortune.

Walmart is guilty of alot of things, alot worse then getting rid of layaway. For a multi billion dollar company, they have no community support programs. Their insurance is less than par for a company of their stature. I'm sure there is more. But as far as customer service...they have gone down hill in the last year. I used to always fill my RX because of convenience...but I'm finding it less and less convenient. I call in my RX refills, get there 8 hours later and they are out of it...but no one bothered to call me and tell me? they say it'll be in the next day...I go back. Nadda...another person has told me they've discontinued my prescript and they can't replace it with anything else. Ok...but you've got my doctor's phone # you can't call? Eckerd's does. They just don't do the little extras like they used to. Now, in our area you're lucky if you can find any associates who can speak English, much less answer your questions as to were to locate something. But what do you expect when they treat their own employees so horribly. I was never a big fan of Target but for super centers I'm shopping there more and more...and I say reopen more K-marts!!!! they closed all but two in our county...and they aren't really convenient to get too, otherwise I'd be shopping there instead.

I decided not to shop at Wal-Mart a long time ago after the way they treated my father while he was working at the corporate headquarters in Bentonville. Sorry, but when you have a kid and are a single dad, you can't put in 70 hour work weeks. They are not family friendly. I will go above and beyond out of my way to avoid shopping at wal-mart.

I have always disliked Wal-Mart. It is the only major store in my area and when you go there, it is you and the other 10,000 people that live in this town. We have no where else to shop because Wal-Mart has put everybody else out of business.

you know its funny you asked that, just yesterday where I work, a girl I know that works at Walmart came in, and I asked her about it, I dont have kids & dont do layaways but have lots of friends that do, and it is how they get their kids Christmas, she was ticked that they did it too, when I asked her why she said their reasoning is..people put stuff on layaway, pay the minimum down, pay some along & then come in, say they dont want it, and get their money back...they say broke people use them as a bank, letting Walmart hold their cash, till they get in a tight spot and need it back....well, I dont believe the % of folks that do that is staggering enough to cutout layaway & Walmart is not out a thing, they still have the products, a lot of folks depend on layaway to to be able to get Birthdays & Christmas, and it does tick me off for those folks, & in talking to her, the employees are ticked also.
