I'm so nervous that I have it, but I don't have all the symptoms. I have a fever and a terrible headache (however, I get headaches very often, so this isn't something new), and my neck is a little stiff but just barely. I can turn it fine. When I touch my chin to my chest, my upper back hurts a little, but not my neck. I'm not vomiting though, and light isn't bothering me. I've tried checking for a rash and I don't have one as far as I can tell. I went to the doctors yesterday and he checked my eyes and made me move my neck, and said it's a flu-type virus. But I'm still nervous about having it. Any input?

If you had meningitis your neck would be stiff to the point that it would hurt to move (so you wouldn't) & your back wouldn't hurt. It is most likely just a virus! Esp if the dr didn't think that you had it!! Don't worrry!!!

you said that you have not been vomiting so don't worry about that, and no headaches so far, that is good. by your neck being a little stiff that is one sign that resists any-side-ways or flexion-extension movements of the head; this is a classic sign. Positive Kernig sign(resistance to leg extension after flexing the thigh on the body) and Brudzinski sign(neck flexion causes flexion of the hips from a supine position) indicate meningeal irritation. Deep tendon reflexes increase, and the patient exhibits irritability, photophobia, and a hypersensitivity of the skin. Seizures caused by cortical irritation can be late manifestations of the process. Drowsiness may progress to stupor and coma. Treatment: Meningitis is treated aggressively with intravenous antibiotic therapy. Anticonvulsive drugs are administered to control seizures activity. Aspirin or acetaminophen are given for the headache, Stimuli are kept a minimum, the room is kept dark and quiet.

well first of all you should see a DR but till you go remember that you will feel nauseous, have fever, and will be VERY sleepy. Meningitis is inflammation around your brain (from what I understood). My daughter had it when she was only 7months and we went to the hospital for 3 days till they were able to catch it. They had to do a lumbar puncture (like an epidural) so that they can take the fluid and test it.
There are 2 types of meningitis, viral and bacterial.
All I can say is go see a DR ASAP

You said that you often get headaches, so don't worry. You do not have neck stiffness, vomiting, drowsiness, photophobia. I don't think you have meningitis. Relax.
