Someone in our office pool wants to bet that the game will be a "push" rather than picking either the Colts or Bears to cover the spread. Is that usually allowed?

no vegas does not take push bets.
If that person in your office pool wants to bet, take his/her money.

The closest I've seen to this is some sites (like Bodog) offering ranges of victory. For example, they'll have a line for "Colts by 1-3", "Colts by 4-7", "Colts by "8-13", etc., and the same for the Bears. I have not seen lines on individual point spreads.

However, if the line was 7 (it's currently 6.5), you wanted to bet the Colts, and picking up the 7 was important to you, many sites allow you to buy and sell points for a cost. If the line was Colts -7 -110 (Colts by 7, bet $110 to win $100), they may let you buy 1/2 point and go to, say, Colts -6.5 -125 (the large jump from -110 to -125 is because 7 is one of the key numbers in football betting, and it's expensive to buy points off of it). I know it's easy to do this on www.pinnaclesports.com, if you're not in the U.S. I believe you can do it on www.thegreek.com and others as well.

In reference to the previous poster: the sportsbooks don't "usually" list lines with 1/2 point included to avoid pushes. The line is a function of their prediction of the game's outcome and the money flow that has already occured. They're fine putting the line as a whole number and risking the push if it's the optimal profit point. They would lose more in expected value by, say, listing the line at 6.5 or 7.5 when the true line should be 7 than they would by putting it at 7 and possibly pushing.

All doors are open presently & every tom dick & harry is free to have a go, choose your name & kick Indian cricket for free, they are responsible for this mess. Not guilty till proven so but everyone is looking for more sensation & especially some people who are here at YA only for this purpose, so can't expect any sympathy. Look at the answer SBS has given & you'll understand that a balanced person has balanced views & others with imbalanced views can count themselves accordingly & there are plenty of them around. Kicking someone already on the ground is easy but hardly anyone extends a helping hand & they stand out in millions..

thats why spreads are usually given in 1/2 points, so theres not possiblitiy of a push. ie. the colts will win by 7 1/2.

They'll take your money pretty much any way you want to give it to them.

The spread has now changed to 6 1/2.
