I have not worked for the last month. I have recently moved to another country and have signed up with 2 employment agencies, but they haven't been able to offer me anything. I am qualified with a degree in Economics and Mgmt, and 3 yrs managerial experience in a large bank in my home country, but that seems to mean nothing here.

Consequently, I am home all day feeling very bored, sorry for my self and depressed. I don't want to go out b/c that involves spending money and I am already surviving on fumes as it is. The few friends I have here all work and while they are sweet and supportive, I am really becoming embarassed by the gentle inquires about my luck with the job search. basically I am alone all day, bored, and have minimal human interaction. Any advice what I can do to pass the time and lift my spirits? I am becoming desperate :-(

You should also be looking for jobs instead of through employment agencies. Employment agencies are paid a fee through the company so some companies aren't willing to go through them so they can save money. Try monster.com, careerbuilder.com or even craigslist.com. Google something like top companies in "your area" and start going to their web sites and finding out names of people in the human resources/recruiting department, start calling them or emailing them your resume. This should remove any type of boredom, plus you'll get a job.

Hey, what a predicament! I haven't had much job experience, but I can tell you that maybe you're shooting too high in the job market. I'm not saying go get a job at McDonald's since you already have a degree and everything, but surely someone will give you a job at a bank or something. You're story makes me think of the movie "Fun with Dick and Jane", you should watch that movie and then you won't feel as bored. Hopefully since you have an economics degree, you've been smart with your money and saved up in savings accounts and investments. If not, try to invest some time and a small amount of money in something that will give you interest. Get out and do something, I hope things get better for you. God bless you!

everyone loves a cheap labor, so why not swallow you pride and offer yourself as an intern? a very experienced intern offer the company a trail period to get to know you also if you don't like the place, you can walk. be a go getter and call, send resumes. from my hiring experience, the ones that sent me thank you cards and follow up phone calls jiggle my memory and i appreciate their effort. stand out, don't expect a job to fall in your lap.

Why don't you start going to Church? It's free and you'll meet lots of nice friendly people there. Also you could go on walks. Chat to people o the internet. Join your library and go there and read books(if thats what you like doing) and at least you're not at home alone. Good luck x

do you have stuff you can sell? sell your excess clothes to used clothing stores like wasteland or crossroads, sell your books on amazon.com. go do some activites like hiking, going to gallery openings, and house parties. meet people and see yourself to everyone, maybe you'll meet someone who can give you some work. at least you'll get out of the house.
