I just started skating, and my left shin is in a lot of pain from the extra work and not being used to it yet! How can I help keep the pain at a minimum until my muscles get used to exercise again?

Heat and stretching helped me when I took up running a couple of years ago - it promotes circulation. Walking around alot sped up the process before the muscles got used to the major exercise. It kept them from feeling stiff and I felt less sore.
