The average serving of pasta is about 4 ounces per person. So if you cook off a pound, it should be enough. A big thing I always used to tell by students(I'm a pro.chef) is for every pound of pasta you will need to boil 7 quarts of water with 2 tab of salt. Reason: you do not want the pasta to sit there, it needs to continue boiling throughout the cooking time of usually 11-13 minutes stirring the first 30-45 seconds is critical so the pasta will not stick together

I always make plenty more pasta than I know I will need. Spaghetti the second day, re-heated always tastes better!
If you are serving a salad and bread, 500 grams should be enough (average is 75 -100 grams per person for one serving), but I think I would do 750 just to be "safe" and to have left overs.
I would definitely make a little more sauce, many people like to really douse their pasta in sauce, plus again the left over factor.
Also, I add a little oil to the water to keep the noodles from sticking to each other and then after I rinse them, I add a little more oil to keep them separated.
Hope that helps,

are you using boxed pasta? I would say use two boxes. It's cheap, so if there's too much, you can dump the rest after dinner. Don't mix the sauce and noodles until the guests are seated, Even then, only ladle the sauce OVER the noodles, don't mix. Sprinkle with cheddar and monterey jack cheese. If you are using sauce, use two jars and a little can of tomato paste- read the lable, must be PASTE(trust me) and add some browned (in a separate pan) ground beef or turkey (add diced onions and green pepper to the raw meat and brown it up, just till it's not pink anymore, in a separate pan, and drain off fat, then add to the sauce)
Better to make too much, than not enough. Serve with a fresh baguette and soft real butter.
Serve with a nice port wine.

A whole pkg or box of dried spagetti should be enough. If using sauce from the jar, I'd start out w/ 2lbs of browned hamburger or sausage & 2 jars of sauce......Don't forget plenty of garlic bread!!

500 grams should be enough unless they are big eaters. Cook in boiling water forabout 7 to 8 minutes so it will be al dente. Lots of grated parmigiano on top and enjoy! Don't forget to add some olives and extra virgin olive oil from Italy.

Do you have any idea how much these people eat? I mean, I could get away with 4 oz. dried pasta, but my husband can easily eat 8 oz. I'd split the difference and go with 6 oz. per person. (Sorry I don't have a metric conversion table here.)
