Here's the way I see it:
That commercial is preaching against
- an activity that is perfectly legal, BUT
- an activity that we can all agree is bad for one's health and costs society and citizens millions of dollars in increased healthcare premiums and lost productivity.
- an activity whose industry pretends to want to HELP people stop smoking with their smoking websites and assurances that they don't market to kids even though they secretly chemically increase the amount of nicotine in cigarrettes to keep smokers hooked and use cartoon characters to promote their product.

My real question is this: Do you think if I made a commercial almost exactly like that one, but with dead babies in trashcans all around the city, would any television station run the ad? If not, why not? Don't 1.3 million babies die every year from abortions? Aren't hundreds of women injured or killed each year from LEGAL abortions performed by abortionists? Aren't they also emotionally scarred as a result?

Did you know that, just as tobacco companies manipulate the nicotine levels in their cigarettes to keep people hooked, "Planned Parenthood" distributes defective condoms so more women get pregnant and come in for abortions, for which they make a FORTUNE? Did you know that birth control pills aren't as effective as you've been told that they are?

If women are going to be allowed to have abortions, then why shouldn't they be given ALL the facts and details before they make their decision? Isn't that what a "decision" IS...an action based on all facts of a situation? Why won't "Planned Parenthood" give a woman a sonogram before an abortion? Why won't they give women information about the fetus' development? Why don't they double-check the gestational age of the fetus and inform the mother before she makes her decision? Why do they just take the woman's word for it? She's not a physician, she may not know HOW to figure out how far along she is.

Why don't they inform women? Because they don't CARE about anything accept making sure she chooses abortion so they can get their MONEY. They know that if women are given all of the information, they will most likely change their minds and then they would go out of business. Bye bye BMW! Bye bye mansion! By by country club membership! How sad that would be... :-(

bmac: Thanks for taking time to reply! I think that moral-relativism (see http://www.moral-relativism.com) could easily lead the destruction of our civilization if not stopped. It's funny that the pro-choicers who say "don't judge anyone for anything" are so quick to judge me for having an abortion in 1989. They send me emails through Yahoo answers mocking me and calling me a hypocrite and a murderer. They have such ugly souls, and it is they who are hypocrites. I try not to let it affect me, as I have received forgiveness through the love of Christ and also MANY NICE emails through Yahoo. After all, would anyone call a former smoker a hypocrite for becoming an anti-tobacco lobbyist? Just because smoking is legal doesn't make it a wise or good or MORAL thing to do. Judgment of smokers is more widespread; banning smoking in public places; extremely high taxes on cigarettes; higher insurance premiums.

I choose to share MY personal experience of abortion because I feel the need to warn mothers about the detrimental effect that it will have on their lives (not to mention their poor little babies). My abortion has caused so much heartache, guilt, anger, depression, and a host of other problems. Abortionists give you only the information they want you to hear and lead you to believe that, if you just kill this baby, your life will go on to be perfect; that want us to believe that they want to do the right thing for the woman’s benefit. But what they really want is for mothers to embrace despair and hopelessness because it's good for business! The bottom line is all that’s important to them.

Besides, you misinterpret the definition of “hypocrite”. If I were to condemn the act of abortion, and THEN go out and have one, I would be a hypocrite. But, I have had an abortion in the past, and then, from MY experience with it, choose to speak out and tell other mothers the TRUTH to possibly spare them from the pain of it. There’s a big difference and your misuse of the term in describing me and calling me names actually make YOU the hypocrite. Besides, you know how pro-choice woman like to say “If you don’t have a uterus, then get out of mine”? Well, if you’ve never had an abortion, you have no clue what the consequences are, so get out of my face.

Besides, why are you so threatened by my speaking truth if you think it’s a lie? Have a little confidence in your petty “right to choose” argument, or come up with something new. It’s a tired response and it shows your true ignorance and lack of compassion for the real experiences of women. If ANYONE has the right to comment about abort, it’s women who have actually HAD one and feel that they were damaged by it.

no they wouldn't people would be up in arms about their rights to have abortions, smokers have been getting the raw deal by high taxes on their cigerettes, not smoking in restaurants and certain public places they have been shunned. I also think it's unfair for them, it's a legal drug that is very hard to quit, I know I smoked for 11 years and quit cold turkey and it was the most difficult thing to do.
I don't want to smell the second hand smoke or have my children around it either but I'm not about to tell someone to put out that butt I would just move away.
And about abortion: I am for abortion because I have no right to tell a woman what to do with her body. And why put it up for adoption since there are so many children in the USA that need homes and everyone keeps adopting from other countries, let's take care of those in need first and stop worrying about abortion

i dont think they would run it like abortions im not for it but im not totattkly against it either. if someone has been raped and they dont want the baby sure they could put it in state care but there are many kifds missing and found dead right now cause state depts are so full with csase loads, so if an abortion happens and rape is the reason im ok with it otherwords im not and abvout the smoking ads they making cigars that taste like strawberrys and many other flavors so more people get hooked, they are hooking people and no one in thew world will stop it, if people want to smoke they are gonna, the ads are against it but then you got people maiing flavor cigs and cigars and telling people its ok... whats the use with the ads in the first place. might as well go to a school and hand them out to all the kids...it might as well be the babys first present...

- I am a non smoker - All of these ads are over the top. It seems like every health problem in the US is blamed on smoking or second hand smoke. Also the fact that a lot of Bars now have a 'No Smoking' policy makes me laugh. I am more concerned about dying from one of the drunk drivers at a bar than I am about dying from breathing the second hand smoke.

Personally, I think if you want to make a commercial, you should target the obesity problem.
I've smoked for 30 years and haven't cost the health system a dime.
However, I work with a bunch of diabetics whose problems can be directly attributed to their crappy diet.
Maybe your commercial could have gangrenous limbs hanging out of trashcans, because that's what eventually happens to diabetics, if it doesn't kill them first.
Heart disease, stroke, and most cancers fall in there, too.

What was your experience like? Did you go to the clinic completely blind? You had NO idea whatsoever of what was going on, or what you were doing?
It is obvious that you regret it. But shouldn't YOU own it? Shouldn't YOU be responsible for the decision you made?
Seek counseling, mourn your loss properly so that you can move on, be healthy and happy for yourself and fully available to your family.
