well, i think turkey cant publicize these areas to the world as much as western sides (in fact, we cant publicize our whole country) but the eastern side is valuable as visiting as the western side. do u know that one of the best place for skiing is in Kartalkaya Mountains, Erzurum? or the historical places in Mardin? By the way, u just can come Turkey only to sightsee Karadeniz, the whole north side of Turkey, where have a full of nature beauties; forests, lakes, waterfalls and national parks.
yes, about ur question, u're right but this is also valid for all Turkish touristic places.
check the link for a simple example and find out a few touristic places in eastern Turkey

Young visiters wants sun, bars and fun... Old ones likes historical places. I know all part of Turkey is full of historical but your quetion is abaut visiters age. And we can say tourists whice visits Turkey from UK is young.
By the way I saw a lot of Japanise tourists in Kapadokya but their age was more than 55.
Note: Only Jap's camera's was new.

As stated above, most tourists want sun, sand, sea and s**. Some travel agencies/package tours offer trips to the east of Turkey. A lot of independent travellers visit pockets of the east (Mount Nemrut, Urfa, Mardin, Van, Kars, Dogubeyazit etc). I first visited the east of Turkey in 1988 with Swan Art Treasure Tours. Well worth it!
A random sample of web sites offering trips to the east of Turkey are listed below.

I don't agree with some posters above. I personally have seen many places in Anatolia. But a European would expect 5-star hotels and English speaking waiters in restaurants. If you can live without your luxuries, you can visit all the places you name, and have a wonderful time, too.
As for terror, it is limited to a few places southeast, non one of the places you name, and terrorists wouldn't dare hit tourists, as this will cause condemnation in Europe.

An average British person works all year and looks forward to their 2 weeks etc..break..All he/she wants is to rest, enjoy water and sun and when its night go and have lots of drink and dance, I am talking about an average British here, they are not usually into historical sites or anything just want a cheap holiday in a hot country with luxuries which they couldn't afford to have if they had a holiday at home...
I don't see if Erzurum, Hakkari, Van has the potential for it right now...

I have a friend who lives in south eastern anatolia. The conditions of living are not the same, and usually there are political problems there because fo kurdish people.Even turks from western Turkey are not so dareful to visit those places. It doesnt mean that the people are bad, maybe it is the concept, which is created there. As in Italy Naples...And Naples is a wonderful city.
But it is also that these places are poor, and also the tourism hasnt been developped there..Also,the government gives more money to send people to work there, but they prefere western Turkey..I havent been there, but my turkish friends told me that thy also avoid to go there, and they shouldnt take me..
I think it is not a matter of danger so much, but a matetr of developpement and of some events happened there.

There are 2 varieties of British travelers: a. very cultured people who bypass to the monuments and Britain could be proud to have them. b. young babies who come right here to get below the impression of alcohol and do stupid issues. i genuinely don't comprehend why they sense this urge, in spite of the undeniable fact that that's a shame, and that i think of the only reason they do this's that they are able to and thet they're going to smash out with it. i think of the greek police could concentration on it, yet there is maximum of of them, that the close by police can not administration the area (at the instant a sort of holiday makers bit off a policeman's ear). Plus in Greece we attempt to be hospitable. in spite of the undeniable fact that, something might desire to be executed. end merchandising alcohol in those places, arresting human beings for inflicting hardship yet no longer only protecting them in the police station till at last they sobre up, they might desire to could pay enormous time or stay in penitentiary for the remainder of their holidays. the priority is that the government do no longer want to try this, because of the fact then the loads of holiday makers won't come right here any further. in spite of the undeniable fact that, they do no longer comprehend that those travelers deter stable high quality travelers from coming right here. So drastic measures might desire to be taken.

Probably because the more attractive touristy areas of turkey are located on the western side.
One more reason could be that perhaps tourists may not feel as safe in Eastern turkey for a variety of reasons.

Probably several reasons. Not much in the way of large towns, lots of mountains, complicated travel to get there, and not a lot of publicity about touristy spots. And, a lot of people simply prefer coasts.
