The "Virtues" are supposed to be the counterpart to the "Seven deadly sins". The Seven Deadly Sins are lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. Their counterparts, the Seven Heavenly Virtues are faith, hope, charity, fortitude, justice, temperance, and prudence. A more direct counterpart is the Seven Contrary Virtues which are humility, kindness, abstinence, chastity, patience, liberality, diligence
In reality, the "Sins" and "Virtues" are both virtues if taken in moderation and bad if taken to extreme. For example, pride and humility are both good in moderation. You have to value yourself some if you are to succeed. However, if have zero trust in your own abilities, you won't be much help to yourself or others. If you trust only yourself and nobody else, that is also counterproductive. Likewise, greed and charity are both good in moderation and bad in the extreme. Taking everything or giving away everything are both counterproductive. Taking care of yourself while considering other's needs is a moderate position that works well.
As far as achieving such a balance, I think most people do a fair job of it. There is always room for improvement, and society is always evolving, but most people are generally good. You don't see too much of the extremes, though they do seem to make the press more.

What we call good virtues in a person is good and we are drawn to those kinds of people. But because of the nature of the category, I might interject good virtues are required of God but that alone won't buy you a ticket to heaven. We still gotta repent through Jesus our sins.

The virtues are gifts from the Holy Spirit and can only be obtained from God and with God. Pride and ego have no part with God. You recieve these gifts in humility.
