I know the Scripture doesn't tell us but the commentators may have some good estimates. I heard somewhere around 40, but if anyone can provide some good info it would be appreciated.

You are correct that the scriptures do not give a specific age for Timothy. However the custom in the Jewish faith was that a man could not take up a ministry until he was 30 years of age. (Priest were not permitted to take part in the temple sacrifices until that age). That is one of the reasons why Jesus did not begin his ministry until the age of 30. Timothy was probably under that age, which is why some would have questioned (depised) his ability to be a leader.

In Max Lacado's Hermie and friends Bible for children. It says in the commentary Timothy was young, and you are young. Be an example to everyone of the greatness of God's grace.
So it really could mean any young age. people lived to be a lot older then.

Considering how old people lived then he might have been considerably older but stlll younger than the lot. Either way I think the point is not to let jealousy and irrelevant measures make you discourage you from your work of make you feel less valuable.
