I'm between the Corolla or the Civic...Other than price and styling differences, is there really a negligible difference between these two vehicles, especially in terms of RELIABILITY?

Both are good buys, I would drive them both and see which one appeals to you.

From a reliability standpoint in my experiences Toyotas tend to be slightly more reliable than their Honda counterparts but truthfully in the long run the differences will be negligible. From a resale standpoint the Civic has the edge. The sportier feel of the Civic plus the following of the sport compact scene have kept the Civic's resale values up, plus Honda as a brand is known for its low depreciation.

Reliability should be comparable. Hondas tend to handle a bit better, and seem to hold value a little better (Toyota is still excellent in that regard), but they're more likely to be stolen, especially if you get a performance model. They're also more likely to get some brain dead asshole telling you "you need to get some tyte modzzzz!" But it shouldn't be much of a problem in most areas.

Insurance might be cheaper for a Corolla.

There are no domestics that compare to a Civic or Corolla. If you were shopping larger cars, you could say "buy domestic!" but don't bother with them in compacts, especially not new ones.

Probably the resale value of the Honda is slightly better than Toyota. Also the Civic is a sportier vehicle than the Corolla

From personal experience, I know a lot more people who favor the Honda over the Toyota (which is made in USA basically).

I think the Toyota would be cheaper to fix if necessary.

If you're talking about reliability, that means this is what's going to sell you the car. Investigate which company has the longest warranty and let that be your deciding factor. Both cars are targeting the same market-range otherwise.

Civic is better than Toyota, because of it's resale value and reliability!
