I am from Michigan and have lived there all my life.. You are old enough to decide this now, however, there may be a catch in the divorce papers your parents signed.. In michigan, most courts say one parent can not move any further away then 50 miles..
I am guessing you have talked to your father about this and he said no, which is why you have asked the question?.. Consider a few things, this is something your parents need to work out.. There may be reasons why your father says no or that your mother and father can not reach a resolution to this common problem..
You might have to contact an attorney and ask them what you can do to be with your mother..
Call the attorney who handled your dad's divorce if you know who it is, and see if he can't answer that for you.. But you were old enough to decide with the court when you turned 12.. But that would of only been if your mom lived in the same area..
The court will decide what sort of thing would be best for you.. But please, don't do anything stupid like quit school, but if your to that point, make sure you tell the lawyer that you will quit if you can't be with your mom.. AND NOT DO IT, if your doing it to get away from rules your father sets.. IF you want to be with your Mom, then tell your father.. He might be saying no because he doesn't want to pay child support.. Which I can understand, but more likely he loves you and doesn't want you moving out of state..
Good luck hun, and hope you can resolve this without to much trouble..

A judge will hear a child at age 12.You could try to ask your dad if you can go and if he doesn't agree your mom will have to get an attorney and you have to get on the stand and say who you want to live with.

I think you are old enough to make that decision. I would talk to your mom about it first. If she thinks it's a good idea, then talk to your dad and let him know you feel you want a closer relationship with your mom and want to move in with her. Before you act on it, think about what you will be leaving. School, your friends, and other family members. If he's iffy about it, suggest investing in on a couple of web cams so you can see each other more often. Let him see that you aren't moving away from him, just changing locations for a change. Good luck to you.

Age 12 is the legal turning point where you can make the decision to live with either parent. You need to speak to the Friend of the Court or a lawyer to make it happen.

You can call your local Family Court Services. Or check with Child Protective Services.
Looking in the phone book - you might want to look up a child custody lawyer and ask a general quesiton how the law addresses this area in your state and then in her state.
Good Luck honey!!

Does your dad have full custody of you? I know in MA it is 16, but different states have different laws... Why don't u just ask them if you can live w/your mom for the next few years...Is she able to provide you with what u need? Roof over your head, food, clothing, and lots of love!!

You are old enough to decide and tell the courts that you want to live with your Mom. No one will be able to stop you if its your choice.
