No. Gray hair, as most people know, is strongly associated with the natural aging process. Hair color comes from cells located in the root of each hair and as people age the pigmentation begins to slow down.

The process of going gray is genetically predetermined and this slow process stops at gray for some people but moves on to white for others. White hair basically signals that no pigment remains to color the hair. Despite common folklore there is no evidence that stress causes gray hair.

Biologically, I doubt if it has been proven true. Speeching from experience I can tell you: It does! I have seen people get Grey hair as soon as they fall into stressing situations. One time they have a perfect hair color, come the stress all that changes. Some of the people you see having Grey hair in their late 30s and early 40s, have had difficult and stressing situations sometime in life. Especially a period between their late 20s and early 30s.

Stress can make your hair fall out but I'm not sure about causing it to grey.

A long time ago, when my mother was 4 years old, her nanny who was "in love" with my Grandfather and deathly jealous of my Grandmother, tried to kill my mom by giving her twice the amount of medication which she was taking for some ailment.

My grandparents were out for the evening and returned to find my mother having convulsions, at which point the nanny confessed her love and resentment towards my grandfather and grandmother. Fortunately, my grandfather was a doctor and he managed to save my poor mother.

The next day to our family's amazement, his black hair had turned to white.

I don't know if stress causes to gradually turn hair gray. Shock however can turn it white. I have heard of similar cases.

My tongue-in-cheek theory is that having children causes gray hair. I got my first one at 30 when I had my first child. My sister had her first child at 20 and yep, first gray hair.

So your theory of stress could be right because chidren=stress!

No. Gray hair comes from lack of pigment in skin. It's almost like an albino.when they have light colored hair, skin. It has to do with the pigmentation in the skin. which is passed down from generation. It's nothing bad or harmful.
